It’s going to drop wherever you put it regardless of Time Sig. It will just operate like linear Legos, one after the other. If you can’t get a Groove to go/drop exactly where you want it, zoom into the Song Track more to increase it’s grid resolution.

If you need it all to look visually better, you can add Time Sig/Tempo changes to the Song Track manually to match your DAW, but not needed since you’re following host. See the Track Menu in SD for that (i think), I’m not at my computer right now.

Ok thanks for responding. I am going to try the resolution suggestion as sometimes I am not able to drop a groove exactly where I want.

If you are simply looking to change the volume of the kick, then either as Jack suggested or increase the fader in the mixer tab. If you are looking to change the gain affected by velocity, thus changing the note characteristics,  then you would want to be adjusting the velocity in the grid editor or in Edit Play Styles.

Try changing the level of the kick drum on the main page of SD3. Do you just want to make the kick louder? You could also try changing the velocity curve for the kick on the main page.

Thank You!! I am definitely going to follow your advice.  As a somewhat new user, I have felt like I was shooting in the dark and hoped to hit my target when I was selecting expansions and grooves. You have provided some light so I can better see my target.  I am into all the types of Gospel and R&B music you mention. Therefore, I will probably eventually buy the products you mention. In the meantime, based on your advice, I can prioritize my purchases according to my needs.  Thanks again.

Wow! That’s the most positive review I’ve ever read! You make me want to spend the $179 it takes to buy this expansion. How do you think the grooves it features would fit into Gospel and R&B music?

I think none of them can separate the different drum elements.  I wished they could! But they do deliver drum track free of any other sounds.  This drum track then works better in Sd3 Tracker than the original.  In SD3 Tracker, you can now more precisely identify which trigger belongs to which drum element.

This is very interesting and helpful.  Of the software options you mentioned, is there any one that would be of more help in what I am trying to do than others, or are they all about equal?  Any suggestions?

    Thanks for your help!

Ok I didn’t state that clearly.  The options I mentioned do not replace SD3.  Those options allow you take a song and separate the percussive parts (kick, snare, tom) away from the song into a new audio clip.  You then import the new audio clip into SD3 Tracker. This will make the percussive parts clear and SD3 tracker  can easily distinguish the different percussive parts for you to work with.

One tip that I know is this: The kick and snare usually play opposite of each other.  If the kick is on 1 and 3 then the snare is usually on 2 and 4.  The toms can be anywhere; however, they usually sound at special places in the song like endings of choruses and verses and during bridges.  If it all else fails, use separation software to create a drum only track of the song.  Then place that track in SD3. I do this and it helps.  If you have iZotope RX, it has a separation module.  Moises and MelodyML are also excellent separation programs.  There are also some freebies out there too.

You are welcome! It gets easier each time you try.  In the video, he stops talking and demonstrates.  When he does, watch closely.  He does a great job.

Yes I did it. Here’s the video that got me started.   It’s not a skill learned quickly. You gotta keep trying until you learn how.

I agree. Users will be more inclined to use and buy products they can easily find a solution when a problem arises.  If I have too much difficulty solving problems I won’t upgrade, nor buy after trial period, nor recommend to other users in forums across the internet.

Ok, I knew I had done this before but couldn’t remember.  I just figured it out. After using Find Tempo and Update Tempo I click on Export. Then I change the Tempo setting to Tracker Tempo Map.  Then I click on Save Selected MIDI As, choosing the name and location of where the MIDI file will be saved on my computer.  Then I import the saved MIDI file into my DAW and those glorious tempo changes are imported into the DAW. Splendid!!
