I seem to be in the same situation as the person who first posted. It’s been 3 years and I still cannot use my hi-hat the correct way. It would be nice to have a clear solution to this issue. My hi-hat pedal somehow triggers a cymbal. I have a DM10 Alesis drum kit. I’m using it with EZ Drummer 2 and Studio One artist as my DAW. If anyone has a working solution to get my Hi-hat pedal to work like an actual hi-hat pedal, please write the solution here.
ps: when using my kit without EZ drummer 2 (just the Alesis sound module) it works perfectly so the problem seems to be the kit in conjunction with EZ drummer 2.
