When I record drum covers for YouTube, I dump a mp3 of the song onto a track, then I have an instrument patch set up for SD3 already pre-configured to my settings.  I record all my MIDI within the SD3 plugin because I like that midi editor better than Logic’s.  Then within SD3, I route all my individual outputs to separate bus’s (is that the correct word? or is it busses?  :P) that are then sent to Logic on individual tracks for the KD, SD, Toms, etc.  I added some screenshots for visual assistance.   Hope that helps a little.

While you cannot start with a blank kit and piece together all the individual pieces, you can find a preset that has the correct number of elements you are looking for (kicks, toms, cymbals, etc) and then substitute in your desired pieces from the different expansions.  That’s how I do it.  My Roland kit is very close the Djent kit in the core library and I just sub in the different instrument pieces from there.

Agreed as well as being able to choose custom colors from a pallet & custom song part names.

Why not change the mic routing away from X-OH1 to the default OH Dyn where all the other cymbals are routed to so that any effects already applied to that channel are used on the newly added instrument as well?    To do that, right click on the newly added instrument, select MORE, then select ROUTE INSTRUMENT MICROPHONES, and finally select whatever microphone you want that instrument to route through; typically OH Dyn for cymbals.

What I usually do when I need to punch-in a part is add another track inside SD3 and do my punch there.  Then cut up the original midi section on track 1 (removing the bad take) and copy in the new punch from track 2.  Hope that makes sense…

Logic Pro X has auto save. You should have been able to revert to one of your auto saved versions. I have had many times where this has saved me a lot of work.

as is with any work done on computers: save often.

Yes but you ALSO need to have the auto-save in other hosts checked in SD3 as well.  I think by default this is not checked and I had an issue where LPX crashed on me and I lost all my SD3 work but all LPX data was retained from the previous auto-save.

After my update was installed, the product manager still showed an update was waiting.  So I restarted the Product Manager and now my SD3 reports 3.1.6 is installed.  So when in doubt, restart the PM.

Well, if you do get this figured out, I would be ecstatic to get a hold of the preset once done because I love to have this sound as well!  😉

When I first got SD3 I was using Reaper, switched to Logic Pro about 1.5 years ago, and I have had no issue using it within Reaper.  I don’t remember it being difficult to setup.  So have to say it’s something on your end.  Don’t give up, you’ll find the answer.  I love the Reaper DAW -more than I do Logic Pro.

This is the exact specs I have with a Samsung EVO 860 1TB SSD.  Works just fine with no issues.  However depending on your budget, I would look for a newerish model to get a longer shelf life out of your purchase.  I know eventually my machine won’t be able to handle all the VSTs we use in our Logic Pro projects.

It’s not quiet that uncommon.  I remember hearing a drum throne squeek at the tail end of a sample on one of the metal EZX’s.  Make’s it more real, even though you would NEVER hear it.
