CC4 values give smooth transitions with the hi-hat foot pedal for varying degrees of the hi-hats openness. So I did a quick drawing on what it would be like, you’ll have to play around with it for your time signature/bpm but this is what I think you are looking for. Basically start with the hit of the most open you want, then the higher the dots go in the CC4 lane, the more closed the hi-hat gets eventually ending with a closed hi-hat pedal.
PS: I am at work right now, so I remoted into my machine and I have no way to preview this audio, so this could be completely wrong. LOL.

Thanked by: Martin, Pertcev and Billy 86You’ll probably need to draw the articulation in on the CC4, starting with a single hit on Hi-Hat Open 2 or 3 and ending with a close foot pedal.

I think I see exactly what you are explaining as well. Here is a video showing the problem. It works if you use the velocity slider on the left side, but dragging the velocity slider in pane selects all notes.

Thanked by: Shaun Pena and Axel MeyerHere you go John. The kick is now stuck on the bottom of the note rows. I would have to reset the note rows to get the kick back to the top and if I drag Instrument 3 back up, kick goes back to the bottom. This does this in both my Logic Pro session as well as in standalone.

I was going to suggest exactly what Brad just mentioned…velocity variance and did you change anything on the Velocity curve menu for the toms?

Thanked by: MiscreantYou will want to adjust the decay, hold, curve slope, and release of the tom’s. I do this quite a bit as well because I don’t want some toms to ring as long as they do or be too boomy. So I adjust these settings in the envelop and offset menu.
Like this screen shot, I adjusted the floor tom to be pretty flat response with little ring…

Thanks, Leo. While I understand why some people who create custom presets charge for them (time is valuable), I think a free option would great. My big fear is how slowly the site will take to get going with content. But I’m willing to give it a go…

Check your CC4 values in the grid editor which is the hi-hat open/close information. You can find that in the drop down menu just below all the instrument lanes. Once CC4 is selected, the higher the dots on the CC4 lane, the more closed the hi-hat sound will be.

Thanked by: Adam FullerI would do as you suggested, loop a segment in your DAW or SD3, and solo the track to hear the edits. It’s probably better to hear it in context and while manipulating the effect in real time.

Thanks for this great description. Do you connect your TD-30 via USB or with Midi-Cables?
Reply To: Best practice to record with Logic / SD3 / TD-30 version: 3.2.4
Operating system: macOS Catalina (10.15)
My TD-30 is connected with a USB cable. I also use a Focusrite 2i2 connected via USB for monitoring. The audio interface is not necessary but my bandmates connect into this when we jam so it’s right there on my kit, so I use it.
