    Thanks. So could I still use the SD3 effects on a per channel basis? Basically use the SD3 mixer features against all the EZX mixer channels?

    Reaper gets my vote, but if you want truly free look at Cakewalk by Bandlab.  It used to be a Cakewalk product called Sonar before the brand was dissolved and once upon a time it cost several hundred dollars, but is free now.

    I had the same problem with the Pop Punk EZX.  Luckily I found the key layout (as well as pretty much every EZX key layout) here:

    C:\-your ezx install folder-\Toontrack\EZDrummer\EZX2_PopPunk

    Yes, you can do it.  I’m attaching two midi files for you.  These use CC4 automation to mimic a drummer opening and closing the hat during a beat – that’s the trick to getting the sound.  One file I just made to demonstrate the sounds – it has 4 hi-hat hits.  The other is the verse to Welcome to the Jungle that gives a musical context for using automation like this.
