Click an instrument in the Drum tab like a crash cymbal so that it is hightlighted in blue, then at the right top instead of “Default box view” select “Show All”, down below that click the double down arrows to open the smoothing settings. “Level of smoothing for fast repeating hits.”

Yes. There seems to be a difference between SD3 running with a preset selected and actually being ready to play that preset with all the samples loaded. It looks like it requires a human to load the preset the first time, the VST host can’t do it. Has anyone successfully been able to get SD3 presets automatically and fully preloaded in a host, without first having to manually load each one?

Thanks, yes I tried that and it just isn’t usable for edrums since when every articulation of every drum/cymbal is first played it is loaded into memory and makes a stuttering sound as it does so. Then it’s fine after that first time. For a snare drum for example there are six different articulations with three being regularly played (center, off center, rimshot).

I don’t have the Alchem-e cymbals but have been considering using them instead of the noisy and unreliable DWe cymbals. How do you like them?

In terms of midi for them, since there is no built-in mapping you will need to make your own midi mapping file and save it in SD3, using it on every kit. You may need to make modify and save another copy of it for different SDXs as well if you have more than one. So in the mid mapping setting window go through every single articluation on every  single drum and cymbal on your kit and make change the mapping as necessary to make it the right sound (snare center/edge/rim shot/side stick, for cymbals: bell, bow, edge, mute, for toms center, rimshot, rim, etc…). It’s a lot of work, but once it’s done it’s done and you just reuse that mapping.

You didn’t mention which instruments you wanted hand played, but Fields of Rock has bongos and some other things hand played and they sound great with variations as you would expect. You can go to the SDX web pages and it will say. For example, near the bottom of the page “Hands” https://www.toontrack.com/product/fields-of-rock-sdx/  There are some SDXs with hand played drum set too.

I haven’t seen a lot of discussion about Fields of Rock, but I just got it and think it may be one of the best SDXs. It has three classic Ludwig kits in it, and some great percussion.
