Check your DWe control app. In particular the dynamic range setting and sensitivity for the toms. Think mine are 5o and 8 or something – not near my laptop.

I think the only way to do this is with a VST host. The host remembers the entire state that SD3 is in, including which user preset is selected and which midi map is loaded. So you would then select the preset you want to play in the VST host and not in SD3.

I use cantabile and it works well, and they have a free version that you can try out. SD3 can be embedded in Cantabile, so there is no separate window, just a thin frame around it.

I have one drop-down menu with all of my SD3 user presets across six SDXs, each using the right midi file, of which I need about eight.

Yes, you don’t need a project and associated midi mapping for each user preset. But you will need one for an SDX that has non-standard instruments – mostly toms. I have 110 SD3 user presets now spread across six SDXs and have about eight midi mapping files. They are mostly tied to the SDXs, though occasionally just one preset where I have a weird one-off instrument layout. The best way to manage all this is to use a VST host like Cantabile. It takes time to understand it and get it all set up, but after that I can now select any of my user presets from one large drop down list and the correct midi mapping loads with it.

Thanks very much guys! I got it figured it out. What was/is bending my brain is that there are three saveable file types: User Presets, Midi maps, and Projects. Changing midi note assignments in a user preset can change the midi map file, and vice versa. But the midi map file is not saved with the user preset, it is saved with the project. And some SDXs require a different midi map file since they have different numbers of toms or other instruments. So you can’t have only one project and midi mapping file for all of SD3. (?)

Wow 19 SDXs – nice! I agree that preset management in SD3 needs work for edrummers, and making it more difficult is a few SDXs that require different midi maps. So changing a preset may also require loading a midi mapping file for it. I have worked around this by using Cantabile as a VST host. So I have one big dropdown menu with all 100 of my drum kit presets across many SDXs with the right midi maps and arranged in a way that I can quickly find them. These presets are also selectable via midi, but so far I just use my laptop touchpad.

Yes, they were all higher velocity hits. There must be dozens of samples per cymbal.

Oh hey Mark, yah I figured I would post here as well to see if anybody had a solution. And yes drumjack, would need to remap all three midi notes for toms. I think the takeaway here is that SD3 is not intended for live edrumming use. It’s not desirable to have to spend time on your laptop swapping out midi map presets on stage in between songs, and then back again. And this in addition to the time it takes to change drum presets only with the mouse/touchpad in the menus since there are no keyboard shortcuts. A VST host could work.

Thanks guys! It sounds like you are both describing going into settings and manually switching between user drum map midi presets when using this library and switching back when done. In other words, a single drum map can’t be used for this library that works with other libraries – including Hitmaker Machines which has the regular four rack toms. Is that right?
