Another vote for Reaper!  I’m a relative “Newbie” myself when it comes to DAW home recording and have had little trouble learning and working with Reaper.  I also purchased EZ Drummer2 and it works perfectly with Reaper – no issues at all.  One thing I looked for when deciding on recording software was availability of instructional videos as I relied heavily on them to get started.  Reaper has a full library of well done tutorial videos on their site in addition to what you’ll find on YouTube.
