I love Shootie’s MIDI Speed Dating technique to the point where I’ve stolen it. 😀
Proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

You might want to try running the Product Manager to see if there are any updates required. You also might want to try Restore Instrument Database in the Advanced Settings. Would probably recommend using the library copy for your interactions.

I don’t see anything in the TOS that precludes arguments as long as it’s kept civil and there’s no personal attacks. And so far I haven’t seen any. If one can’t argue a point then what’s left?
Here I go with the “that’s the problem with the younger generation“ routine. They don’t know the difference between two old guys (you only have slightly shy of a decade on me and at this age it doesn’t really mean much) having a discussion and having an argument.
It reminds me of a time that I was working in Windsor 20 years ago. Me and a coworker, my age, who we became good friends, would often go into a room to discuss our ideas. However, everybody outside of the room were taking bets as to who would walk out alive. They couldn’t grasp the fact that we were discussing.

That’s what I love about you, Brad. I always consider you my voice of reason here. I would find you on Facebook and make you my friend, but I don’t think you could stand the torture. 😀
however, I think you will agree with me that an argument is not valid without the proper presentation of facts. Case in point:
I have the same (or extremely similar if not identical) DW Collector kit in four different SDXs.
However, they all sound different in every way, including the so-called signature sound that is purportedly mentioned more than once. In fact, it’s not even a sound, but a characteristic of the drums themselves. This I can agree on to a certain extent, since it is encompassed by the recording, and not the other way around. I think we can agree that attempting to state otherwise would only present a lack of understanding of the Who, what, and where of recording. It would also be, as we would say, in the recording world, a Failure to use your ears. There are many subtle differences within a recording that will make or break these drums within a song. This is one of the primary reasons that BFD failed me in. It’s later years. Jack might have other reasons why BFD failed him and brought him over to Superior Drummer.
allow me to state a more personal example based on my playing with drummers for over a half a century, including one of my childhood friends which we still jam together when I make the occasional trip down to Toronto. Almost every SDX has my favorite Ludwig kit. I can state this with relative authority, considering that it is far easier to list the SDX that I don’t own rather than all the ones I do own. Despite all of these expansions, I will always choose the Ludwig kit recorded by Bob Rock in The Rock Foundry. There is a real reason for this and that is in the capturing of the drums themselves. Even in the same studio, in this case, The Warehouse, two libraries sound different. Yes you might be able to argue that the drums aren’t the identical, but even going beyond that, all it takes is a pair of listening ears. Would we not say that if the opposite were true, wouldn’t every other SDX be nothing more than a waste of money beyond the Core library?

Thanked by: BradIn addition to Brad, are you able to record a MIDI track in Reaper using your iPad.
As well if you are seeing incorrect notes, it’s possible that you are transmitting in the wrong octave

You would have to route the outputs in Superior Drummer 3’s mixer to different channels. As well, your interface would need to support multiple channels via USB.

DW has a certain sound as does Gretsch as does Yamaha no matter where each is recorded or by whom.
And yet I have at least five libraries containing the same kits and they all sound different. Your statement is totally baseless. Many great drummers will easily attest to the fact the room will influence how a drum sounds. Change the room and you change the sound and considering that we are also talking about recorded drums, the gear will indeed influence the sound.
jord
Considering you mention two very different producers and studios, that will greatly affect how you hear the same kit. Just because it has a DW or Gretsch label on it, that doesn’t mean that it’s going to sound the same across libraries. Otherwise, what would be the use for them?

Everyone has their reasons for getting an SDX. For me it is more than just the kit itself. It is about who recorded it, how they recorded it and where they recorded it that makes a difference in the music for me. I might have umpteen Ludwig black beauties, but only one of them will fit a song perfectly. Even if it is just one kit on The SDX, if it makes a difference in the song, then it is well worth it rather than wasting my time trying to wedge something else in like a square peg and a round hole. Drive space is relatively inexpensive these days.

The percussion in FoR is quite good, but half of it is more found sounds as opposed to standard percussion. It’s good for coming up with more unique grooves and accompaniments. For standard percussion, my go to is the Latin Cuban Percussion EZX.
I also agree with Brad regarding State of the Art SDX. It has become one of my go to’s. Another one is Stories.

Thanked by: drumjack52MIDI grooves are interchangeable between Superior Drummer and EZ Drummer. Superior Drummer will see all of EZ Drummer’s grooves in its Grooves tab and vice versa.

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanI discovered that I had mapped the Rototoms as well as the octobans backwards in the FoR drum mappings. I also mapped the ladder and railing to the cymbals in the Drummer mappings to make for some interesting rhythm combinations. Here is a new set of mapping. Enjoy!

From various sources, latency in Wavelink is normal. The best you might get from it is low latency mode. However, it’s more of a Elgato support situation.
