It’s not the updates. I’m always using updated versions of both SD3 and Logic. It has always been this way with Logic. You were probably lucky and didn’t have the arrange window or the track active at the time.

    Hi-

I had this same issue and it was kind of unresolved but apparently you have to manually set the tempo events in SD3.

Yours was more of a user/Logic issue in that there wasn’t a beginning tempo marker at the exported area and a tempo curve in Logic which does not interpolate on export.

To the OP: check to see what you’re exporting from Logic as it may not translate into any other applications.

The simplest way I’ve found is to save a curved preset and then load it in the MIDI/E-drum. It seems to hold the curve.

But yes, it would be more helpful to have that ability throughout… hopeful for implementation in a future revision.

Logic key commands enforces precedence over plug-ins. And if you have a track selected with the Arrange window active, it will delete the whatever is in that track. That’s pretty much how Logic has worked for years. You would pretty much have to disable or change the command in the Arrange window, which is possible.

Did you unhide the channel and enabled it? It works here.

On the Mac, AU is native. VSTs are wrapped. Everything eventually has to go through CoreAudio in order to play on a device (doesn’t matter whether its your audio interface or computer speaker).

The difference is more under the hood. VSTs are handled on the application layer where AU’s are more tied to the OS layer, being CoreAudio. It may become more noticeable in a high load situation as CoreAudio will ensure that audio is handled in a pre-emptive manner (sometimes noticeable when graphics become a bit laggy). This could at times potentially affect VSTs. When given the choice between an AU and a VST, I am more likely to opt for the AU.

Are those regions muted? If so, they wouldn’t be included in the bounce.

It has more to do with enhanced security measures in Catalina than anything else, that is affecting software installs and upgrades. One developer I know alluded to file vault being enabled, but it may be part of a bigger solution. I’ll see what else I can find out.

I never make major decisions on home stereo speakers due to their hyped nature. If anything, I would compare the mix against a reference track on my main monitors since I can hear everything I need to there.

Like I said in the other thread, it may help a few mix decisions to mix at a lower volume. If it sounds good low, it will sound good loud.

I’m not attempting to beat up on you for using headphones. All I am really getting at is that you may be mixing in them a little too loud, thus experiencing the Fletcher-Munson curve (our ears act as compressors beyond a certain threshold). There are many people I know, myself being one of them at one time, that believe that loud music has to be mixed loud, which is not only false, but dangerous.

That being said, I do a lot of my mix work on headphones, main due to the fact that I have become more of a night owl during this lockdown. I will record guitars through my amp though, since it doesn’t bother my wife like the mixing does. She can’t stand the repetitive nature of mixing. However, I do listen to my mixes on a set of monitors as well as some consumer grade computer speakers, to make sure that the mix translates well to each of them. Once I am done, I will listen to it on my iPhone speaker as well as my laptop speakers to ensure that bass guitar is heard and the make sure that the hi-mids are not at cringing levels. After that, I give it the road test. Road factor is important because the music has to be able to cut through that. I’ll gladly make adjustments if it doesn’t survive that test. Only when it passes all of those tests, will I release it.

It’s just my opinion however… that and a two-dollars are worth a coffee and a doughnut.

Another thing that just occurred to me:

Do you have FileVault enabled? There has been issues with other software updates in which FileVault was causing issues.

I like the beat of the song, but the mix sounds unbalanced. I think the bass is a little too overbearing and the vocals are a little too far forward in the mix, however. The beat winds up getting lost as a result. It’s somewhat characteristic of mixing with your headphones loud.

Is it crashing on a new project or an existing one? It could range from a bad project to a corrupt preference or a permissions issue.

You also might want to ZIP the crash log and post it so the devs can have a look.

I’m not seeing any issues with Logic and SD3 either. Then again, I’m also running Mojave for now.

Pending that, I have more “brute force” methods to check, but would require going into the Terminal.

Let us know what you find.
