I’m using SD3 Standalone to test this.

Midi out of the TD-20 into RME Fireface UFX Midi in. This is then connected to the PC via USB.

Thanks for that Henrik, but it’s not quite the same thing. I was thinking about removing ‘en masse’ a bunch of muted notes across several articulations.

I actually don’t now think that SD3 even has the facility to mute individual notes (I might be wrong of course) – it only seems possible to mute an entire articulation.

Perhaps I need to look at Nuendo for that sort of thing.

    Thanks.

So are these just temporary files used to construct the stereo pairs?

I would have imagined that as the stereo outputs already exist and are audible, simply creating audio files from them would be far easier than creating a load of separate files on disk from the individual components of those outputs and then combining them into stereo pairs. It just seems odd to me.

After saving the SD3 project in SD3 and then saving the Nuendo project, I would expect that the correct SD3 project would be opened the next time the same Nuendo project and SD3 plugin are opened.  As it stands now, whenever the SD3 plugin is opened it defaults to a ‘Default’ project, so every time I have to go and select the correct project from the top of the SD3 ‘Open Recent’ list. This should not be necessary.

    Thanks Scott.

So the ‘Part Presets’ section is irrelevant to me.

That’s good – one less thing to worry about.

    Thanks.

That allows me to load any preset and then replace the mixer with the one from my saved User Preset.

It doesn’t explain what is going on in the ‘Part Presets’ section of the drop-down menu, but that is not important right now, I can do what I want to do.

Drag the midi file from Pro Tools into the Song Track in SD3, then click on the Track tab just above the song track area and then select Bounce and choose the options you want.

    It works well.

It’s a good idea to read the ‘Bounce’ section in the SD3 user manual.

All of the kit piece info and mixer routings are saved in the preset. If you either option-click or click on the dropdown icon in a preset within the menu and select Load Parts, you can then choose what you wish to load.

Mappings are saved mainly in the Midi-in/E-drum settings. Presets add additional transformation of those mappings.

Kits and presets are different animals, just as they were in BFD. Kits are just that.

Sorry Jord, but I don’t understand your post.

Which ‘dropdown icon in a preset’ are you referring to on which menu?

We’re very slow around here. 🙂

I’ve found out why removing notes in the Grid Editor does not always remove them.

Clicking on an unwanted hit with the pencil tool looks like it has removed the hit because the diamond is no longer visible. However the notes are not removed properly in this way. After the project is saved the notes will return!

It seems logical to re-click with the pencil tool on a note that may have been entered by mistake, but not here. There does not appear to be any help in the user manual Grid Editor section about deleting notes. The only way I have found to do it is to lasso the note/notes and then hit the [Delete] key.

It would probably be a good idea to either make using the Pencil tool a legitimate way to quickly remove unwanted notes, on not let it happen. 😉

I’m still really confused (have been for days now and it seems to be getting worse).

Looking at the Mixer screen, I’ve assigned the 3 kick mic channels to the single output ‘Out 1/2’ (which I’ve renamed ‘KICK’ to correspond to a channel in Nuendo. However, looking at the Route Instrument Microphones’ window Microphone Kick In is routed to Mixer Channel Kick In, Microphone Kick Out is routed to Mixer Channel Kick Out and Microphone Kick Sub is routed to Mixer Channel Kick Sub.  This is very confusing. I’m trying to get all three kick mics grouped together in Out 1/2, without using the busses. What am I missing here?

I’m reading and rereading the manual day after day just trying to get everything routed back to Nuendo in a logical way, but I don’t appear to be getting very far.

For a start, I would prefer that Kick, Snare and HH could be output in mono, but never mind that for now. I would be happy if it were possible to do the following:

Group all Kick mics to Out 1/2

Group all SN mics to Out 3/4

Route HiHat mic to Out 5/6

Group all five Tom mics to Out 7/8

Group all Crash cymbal mics to Out 9/10

Route all Ride Cymbal mics to Out 11/12

Send varying amounts of each instrument to the three Ambience mic pairs (perhaps depending on how far each mic pair is away from the kit).  –  I’m not using the surround channels.

    How can this be accomplished?

At the moment I feel that if I can not accomplish this very soon now I will probably give up and remain with BFD2, which would be a shame as SD3 does sound fantastic. I just can’t continue spending so much time on this basic setup.

It’s because UAD plugins (mono) use less DSP on mono tracks and behave differently too.

It makes complete sense so have mono for kick, snare etc and stereo for overheads and what not. Why this isn’t a feature is beyond me! I have just bought the VSTi and kinda regretting it already 🙁

Can there possibly be an update on the horizon? There’s gotta be!

    That’s correct.

It’s still the same problem in SD3.

    Disappointing.
