I even tried using the headphone plugged into the monitor port on the front of the Focusrite.
- NO SOUND coming out of my monitor whatsoever! I tried turning all the dials in the Focusrite, nothing!
What else did I miss? The setup all seems logical to me. Yet, no sound at all!
Where did I go wrong (again)? ugh it’s so frustrating!
How do we get the sounds out from SD3 in Mac into the speakers?
Thanks,
AK
One Focusrite interface I used, also had a balance knob on front panel(called input/playback on yours) that balance direct input signal and what comes out from interface. So turn that clockwise to playback all the way to be sure. And also try the 1-2/3-4 source switch – not sure what it does and volume on headphones up as well as Monitor knob.
Do the headphone thing first, then continue with speaker stuff – more things to think about.
Not familiar with Mac, so not sure what else could matter.
Yeah.. Managed to get it to work. Wonderful SD3!
Hi guys,
I tried the following simply to get the SD3 sounds out from my speakers:

The midi out of the dtx should be plugged into the Scarlett not usb.
What I could see the DTX 502 trigger module for this kit does only have usbtohost, this crap that Yamaha is leaning more on nowadays.
I would never purchase anything like that. You cannot have 5m or 10m usb cables, it just not reliable.
Proper din midi cables though, no problem.
Hi Mark,
Thanks!
Yes, I see this as the problem. I need to upgrade the module to the Yamaha DTX702, which has MIDI IO ports. This should solve my problem.
I can’t get the MIDI signal from the DTX502 using even the USB-MIDI cable.
I think USBtoHost doesn’t send any MIDI, which I find it strange because if I connect it to SD3 directly, it can trigger the sounds (thus, I was assuming it’s sending MIDI information).

Hi all,
Need another of your divine intervention…
I still can’t get the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 to output sounds into my mixer/speaker system. All this while I am using a monitor, thus separated from other instruments plugged into the mixer. And it sounds harsh… So I tried the Scarlett 2i4 to bring into my mixer/speaker system.
Is there any step-by-step setup in SD3 for Scarlett 2i4? I think I am missing some parts.
My setup was done following the diagram which I found in one of the posts here (see attached).
The outcome was as follows:
Heck, I even tried plugging my drum from Mac into channel 1 of 2i4, nothing… nada…
What other setting did I miss?
Thanks,
AK
SD3 loads samples to ram and never streams from disk. Unless you have the setting that doesn’t load the whole kit I can’t see this being it. You would know if you had this setting. There is no reason I can think of that would increase toms only latency.
what I don’t get is you mention the toms fade and then you turn up the monitor and the come back for a while. This does not seem to describe latency at all. Latency is where the sound is late not quiet?
Hi Mark,
It did happen again today. This time the snare though.
I had been playing for like 45 minutes of quite lively songs. Then, suddenly my snare didn’t sound at all when I hit it. Could this be RAM issue or sensor problem? After leaving it alone for 5 minutes, it came back up. The toms, on the other hand, were fine today.
Thanks,
AK
Hi guys,
Just got back from a gig this evening. Quick question though.
Although all ok and I was trying the system in a gig this evening, I noticed there was latency especially on the Toms (other sounds were fantastic). This was noticeable after playing for a while.
I tried increasing the gain on my monitor and it worked for a while but the Tom sound dwindled away again.
I tried increasing the velocity curve and it worked for a while but then the Tom sound died down again.
I tried looking for ASIO4ALL unfortunately it’s not available for Mac but Windows only.
Please help.
Thanks,
AK
One word: EUREKA!
Finally solved the issue.
1. Set the triggering parameters in the dtx.
2. Removed all the sounds.
3. Mapping the elements in SD3.
4. Voila! SD3 is live and kicking!
What a wonderful piece of art software!! Beautiful sounds!
Thank you very much all for your inputs. Gid bless you all!

Thanked by: Mark King and Henrik EkblomMany thanks for the valuable inputs!
I will give it a go again tomorrow.

Hi all,
As I am reading more, it seems like SD3 is not meant for live performance, but rather for recording purposes.
Has anybody used it for live performances? Please share how to make it work..
Losing hope here 🙁
Andrew
Hi John,
Many thanks for the reply.
I am a bit confused here. I have been reading that Yamaha DTX522 module can act as a MIDI interface. So, you mean I still need another interface?
Any recommendations? I am looking at Focusrite products, but not sure if it’s enough for me just to get 1-2 channel, eg FR2i2 which only has 2 inputs or do I need the 18i20 which has 18 inputs? Can I just plug in the USB-midi cable from the DTX module into 1 channel and still get like all the 10 sounds?
Any link to previous posts regarding “getting decent audio output using interface” in the forum that matches my case?
How can I differentiate 2 different DTX mapping settings in SD3? Because when I choose the MIDI/e-drums, only DTX drums show up.
Today, I managed to get the sound out from the speakers but faces these issues:
Where did I go wrong?
Please help…
Thanks,
Andrew
Hi Gert,
What is an example of a “decent PA-system”?
And also, a decent amped audio interface?
Which works well with SD3 on MBP?
Thanks,
Andrew
Hi Gert,
Many thanks for your reply.
Does this mean I can’t use SD3 on MBP for live performance? It’s so sad 🙁
My DTX522 works perfectly fine, connecting it straight to the mixer and mixer to DBR10 activea speakers though. But I somehow can’t get a descent sound from SD3.
Thank you
Andrew
