Not an easy one to answer as there’s no specific MIDI setup in SD3 for the Yamaha – I know because I have one. Remember that one can set what pad plays what note. Also keep in mind that each kit in the DTXM12 can have it’s own MIDI configuration. You can have pads set to trigger individual notes or a stack of notes. Check page 34 of the manual. If you don’t have the manual it can be downloaded from Yamaha – it’s a pdf file. Yamaha documentation can be a bit obtuse.
One alternative is to try one of the Yamaha MIDI presets in SD3 of the Yamaha preset on the Legacy section. See which one works for you. A big problem is if you just have the DTXM12 and no add-ons you only get 12 notes (unless a pad is set to stack notes). So whatever way you go you’ll have to pick what kit pieces in SD3 are important to you.
I created a setup in my DTXM12 to follow General MIDI for drums. I also have a Yamaha kick drum trigger tower with a DW kick pedal to trigger the kick drum and that’s plugged into the DTX module. I then use the General MIDI setup file in the MIDI in e-drums page of SD3.
