Hey guys,
I noticed when I drag a loop from EZDrummer into Pro Tools; the MIDI/ drum hits are represented by a square with an X. I then noticed if I take the pencil tool and click on the MIDI grid, it comes out as a round block. What’s the difference if any?
Also, I noticed whenever I slide the faders on the mixer, the sound levels barely change. For example, if I slide the hi-hat all the way down so that it’s “off”; I still hear it. When I slide it much higher, only then can I hear much difference in volume.
Thanks,
David
I can’t help you with the PT question but the reason that you hear the hat even though you bring the fader all the way down is because the sounds were recorded like a real ‘live’ drum session. There is drums/cymbals/hat signals in the Overhead and Room channel. If you want to just have hats in the ‘Hihat’ channel, turn off the ‘Bleed’ in the Overhead channel (this will allow only the crashes and ride to be present in the Overhead channel) and also mute the Room channel. But, personally, the overheads and room bleed offer a more ‘realistic’ sound but it depends on the song style and vibe you’re going for.

I think you are simply looking at very short notes.
