In Cubase/StudioOne dragging from User Midi folder brings up the attached error message.
Studio One sometimes let me do it. Inconsistent.
Pro Tools (2023) won’t let me drag midi in general except certain folders such as “Seventies Prog Grooves” Midi Pack. And one particular User Midi file.
All good in Reaper.
Launching a DAW as Administrator does solve this issue from the FAQ here: https://www.toontrack.com/faq/i-cant-drag-and-drop-grooves-into-my-project-help/
So there have been at least one juicy post here about the issue that I believe went further than the Administrative Permissions. I think the forum search is down right now since anything I search says “No Permission”.
Can anyone chime in with their personal experience here or maybe help me find those post(s)… I did manually look through the past three months since I think I read one recently. Since I’m seeing multiple behaviors as described above I’m wondering if there’s a different way to go about this. Like all of my older products and User Midi files have permissions and newer ones don’t.
Win 11, Everything is up to date besides Pro Tools.
Thanks for reading!

as a general rule – content areas mostly – some programs if i trust them – i will reset permissions to add “users – full control” over the parent and let inheritence propagate down. and certainly my content only directories are “user friendly” this way. also, i set my Defender exclusions as well to prevent issues with my DAW and a number of standalone apps because sometimes the content transfer between the apps and desktop (esp if there are local system services running behind the scenes – Avid, Waves, Izotope, NI, etc etc) can impact behaviours as well (as generally speaking you don’t want users to interact directly with local system running services as it’s a potential security breach).

Thanked by: ShootieHi,
Site/Forum Search seems to be working alright, maybe it was something temporary. Was this thread one of the ones you were looking for?
