I actually have a question that is probably easy for some but confusing for me so I hope someone can clarify this.
I use Cakewalk Sonar Producer 8.5 right now and am installing EZD2. I have a VSTplugin folder in my Windows C:/Program Files (x86). Can I just install it into that folder or does it have to install to where ever Toontrack defaults to? If I change the destination folder to mine will I be able to point Sonar to it so it can find it?
I have searched all over the net and can’t find one thing about the different folder choice in regards to Sonar.
Thanks
Tom

Are you installing the 32-bit or 64-bit version is ezd2? The path in your post is a 32-bit path (x86).
You can do a custom install as long as the 32-bit plugin goes to the 32-bit location or the 64-bit plugin goes to the 64-bit location.
Or, you can install in the default location and set the path in Sonar add per this FAQ:

Right now i am asking about 32bit. (x86).
The reason I am also asking is because no matter where EZD2 installs, Sonar can not access it. I had EZD1 installed without a problem but when I upgraded to vers 2 it seems to not be able to access it.
This is what i did:
I downloaded the zip from TT site.
Extracted it to my hard drive.
Installed it to the loaction above.
Opened Sonar: pointed the scan VST program to exactly where it is (the whole Toontrack folder)
Sonar scans every other plug in I have.
I try to insert EZD2 as I always have with EZD1 and it is not on the list and now EZD1 is gone too.
I have had nothing but problems from downloading it to trying to make it all work. So i def need help at this point. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling to the default location (cakewalk/shared plug ins/vstplugins/toontrack/ezd2) still can not get Sonar to see it.
I have tons of plug ins and not once did I have a problem installing or using it. Could it be a problem with the program files I downloaded from TT site? It took a very long time to download it all (about 2 full days)
Oh one more thing. Sonar usually had it installed as : Soft Synths>Toontrack>EXD1 (when it was accessible)
Should i be pointing to the main folder “Toontrack” inside the VSt folder or what is inside the Toontrack folder? It has Superior Drummer, EZ Drummer2, EZ Player. I noticed that the Superior Drummer DLL file is also on the list but it also isn’t showing up in the scan.
thanks
Tom

Well, is the standalone version 32-bit or 64-bit? What version number is showing on the standalone ezd2 interface? In standalone mode, if you check “Help” > “Show Plugin Path”, what is the path displayed?
If the standalone version is 64-bit, it would explain why 32-bit Sonar came find it.
Have you installed the 32-bit version only? Or both 32-bit and 64-bit?
If you scan your computer for the ezdrummer.dll how many are found?

Only the 32bit standalone is installed. Sonar can’t find a dll at the path shown in the help section to make it show up on the VST plug in list. I read online that EZD2 will overwrite EZD1 but I decided to delete 1 and just install 2. no luck still doesn’t work. I have spent just about my whole day off trying to figure out this out. This is crazy. I have never had a problem until this program. I have Waves, and a ton of plug ins installed and not one has ever done this.
I found only one dll. :EZdrummer.dll that’s it. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and still only one shows up. I moved the dll to the folder. Rescanned and still nothing.
Does Toontrack have any real phone support for their products? I’ll tell ya I’m ready to ask for my money back. I have an expansion pack I still didn’t unzip yet because I can’t get this to work in Sonar.

I have both. Again, right now I am only installing the 32 bit version to use only on the 32bit version of Sonar. The 64bit doesn’t work either.

I’ll have to all my colleagues as I’m out of ideas and I don’t personally use Sonar. I’ll get back to you with other suggestions.

Hi,
on my Windows 7 partition, I use Sonar 8.5 Producer Edition but 64-bit only.
I have installed both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of EZdrummer 2 and can launch them both in standalone.
The exact path to my 32-bit version is:
‘C:Program Files (x86)VstPluginsEZdrummer.dll’
and the 64-bit version:
‘C:Program FilesVstpluginsToontrackEZdrummer.dll’
You can see my path settings in the attached screen shot.
If I were you, I would:
uninstall EZdrummer 2 and then make sure there are no remnant ‘EZdrummer.dll’ files on your system.
Set all paths to Default in Sonar, ‘Reset All VSTplugins’ (and close Sonar).
Install the Full EZdrummer 2 product and then apply the latest 2.1.1 update (both 32-bit and 64-bit). Check that it Defaults to the paths I wrote above.
Launch the 32-bit standalone to make sure it works and then do the same with the 64-bit standalone.
Next I would launch Sonar 32-bit and add the path: ‘C:Program Files (x86)VstPlugins’ to the VST Scan Folder(s), followed by clicking the ‘Scan VST Folders’ button.
After this, everything should work.

Thanks for all the replies. I had a friend of mine who is local studio owner who also sets up Protools, Sonar and other DAW’s come over last night to take a look. He told me that EZD2 did not overwrite the first dll. He tried a few times to delte and reinstall the dll but it didn’t work. So he uninstalled everything from the registry and wiped my vst folder clean. We reloaded EZD2 and still nothing so he felt that the file system on my pc may have gotten corrupt somehow and recommended that we start over with everything. So we painstakingly reformatted the entire drive and are reloading my Protools and Cakewalk. Once we are complete he is only going to try to install EZD2 to see if that allows it to install. He is sure it will and said an old EZD1 dll was causing the whole thing because it doesn’t get deleted when 2 is installed. He found multiple instances of the dll on my system. I’ll let you know how I make out once we are complete. Should be later today.
Again thanks.

Under normal circumstances the EZD2 .dll will overwrite the ezd1 .dll. Well, in every Windows system I’ve ever installed EZD2 to it did (multiple Win7 and Win8 machines).
The only possible reason why it wouldn’t would be due to some Windows read/write access problem or that the original EZD 1 .dll was manually moved or copied to a different or multiple location(s) after it’s original installation and the EZD2 installer wouldn’t know where that different location was (it only reads the original EZD1 install location in the registry and overwrites to that location).
Let us know how you make out.

OK here’s a final update. We installed everything as 64 bit so far. All is 100% working fine. We were able to now see it in the plug in list and opened it up in the DAW. We are going to see if all of my plug ins work in 64bit and if so there would be no reason to install the 32bit version of everything. So I guess there must have been multiple instances that can conflict with each other. One thing I noticed now is how fast my system is now running. I loaded it pretty quick (less than 30 seconds with a full vst scan) and plays multiple tacks without any bogging down which I experienced prior to reformatting the drive. So maybe i had something on there causing the isses but none the less it’s all up and running. Now onto installing all my Waves stuff…yee ha! Thank you for all the help and advice you offered!!!
One observation: Toontrack makes it’s own folder for everything (PDF,Stand alone, Clicks) except the dll file which installed to C:/ProgramFiles/VstPlugins. Before i did it it never put the dll file in Vst folder until i reformatted everything……..observation. Hope this helps.
