When I open a protools session EZ Drummer files are greyed out and don’t work.

Hi,
this is unfortunately something that happens sporadically with VI’s in Pro Tools.
You need to reconnect the MIDI output of your Instrument Track with the EZdrummer 2 plugin. Make sure the Instrument view is enabled in the mixer window and route the output to EZdrummer 2.
