Hello – has Toontrack given some indication of what the next major SDX to be released is?
I have decades and am looking at Death & Darkness (metal) and Hansa (80s / alt rock) – and am wondering what might be around the corner before I commit to another 100 gigs of samples. I can’t find anything where they’ve given a heads up but would appreciate it.

Modern day super kits! I hope.
yeah, me too! but i wonder if a combo of Death & Darkness + Hansa basically gets you there?
I’d like to see one with Meinl cymbals and base it around the sounds of Benny Greb and Mike Johnston. Lots and lots of detail, so soloing sounds great. Maybe approach them to do the midi. This would be amazing for E-Drumming and online lessons. Actually sounding like a tutor.
Or maybe a similar thing with a New Orleans inspired SDX with side percussion & a 2nd snare like what Stanton Moore uses.
Basically a series of signature SDX packs of famous drummers and their kit/cymbals, rather than focussing on actual studios for a change.

Thanked by: lucasartoriSignature sets from guys like Benny Greb or Jojo Mayer would be great! I think there are enough great “standard” sets so it’s time for some personality.
An SDX by Hugh Padgham capturing the sounds of Phil Collins, Stewart Copeland and Vinnie Colaiuta….That would be awesome!
Or maybe a Ringo Starr type of Kit? :))))))))

Thanked by: lucasartoriI LOVE THE ROOMS OF HANSA, SO I HOPE SOMETHING NEW, ELECTRONIC FOR EXAMPLE SETUP OF ILA RUBIN OR JOSH FREESE WITH NIN OR ELECTRONIC DRUM USED FROM PUSCIFER, I LOVE IT.
Now I wouldn’t want it recorded to tape 1st. I’m a drummer and I want what comes off the drums and not a tape compressed sound. I can do this afterwards if I want to but I can’t remove it if already there.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
I’d say no to tape more because tape rolls off the high end, which would narrow everything down to a specific tonality, which may make it a bit more of an effort to sit in certain mixes. Tonality (and to some degree compression in the form of saturation) is already defined by the board (such as the Helios 69) to achieve a certain tonality that the producer used in their genre.
Frankly, I care more to see who the next legendary producer/engineer Toontrack works with to produce their libraries. Guys like Eddie Kramer & Bob Rock were the producers I grew up with (mind you, I grew up listening to Bob Rock playing in the Payola$ with Paul Hyde) and would very much like to see more libraries from producers that defined music like they did. If only Toontrack had a chance to work with the late great Andy Johns… that library would have been just as epic as Eddie Kramer. That’s the only library that keeps me hanging on to BFD. Considering that we lost some very notable legends in the past few years, I’m hoping Toontrack creates a legacy of the remaining ones before we lose them, like they did with Al Schmidt. The price of the libraries are a bargain for the feeling of working close to them inside their studio environment.
I say the same goes for many of the drummers out there for the MIDI packs.

Thanked by: Scott80’s rock/metal style, please! Especially with the likes of Michael Wagener, Beau Hill, Kevin Shirley, Tom Werman, etc (especially Michael Wagener!). Either SDX or even EZX.
Something or nothing but Ash Soan posted some snares on his IG last week which he was documenting for an upcoming project followed up by a pic from the UK Pop sessions. UK Pop SDX? Take my money.
Edit:
whilst we’re talking about new stuff the Gospel EZX that dropped today is fantastic. The modern Pearl kit is beautiful and exactly what I wanted. A clean, contemporary kit that can be used in a ton of genres.
I am still hoping for a Matt Chamberlain kit set. That guy has some cool sounding kits
An SDX by Gavin Harrison capturing the sounds of Porcipine Tree, The Pinapple Thief….That would be awesome!
