I have a Roland TD17kvx. I have been using Superior Drummer 3 for two months. Suddenly, something strange appeared. When hitting racktom 1, I sometimes heard multiple hits. And sometimes weak hits.
When digging deeper, it seems to be something weird about the mapping. When I play the snare, two notes are normally triggered, which trigger the right sounds:
38 = Snare zone trigger
40 = Snare rimshot
So far so good, but sometimes note 50 is also triggered, which in turn trigger the sound 82 Racktom 1 rimshot. So when I play with the snare, sometimes I here the racktom rimshot sound. Quite irregularly, I cannot figure out a specific position on the snare. See attached picture 1, where the Analyzer show a number of hits on the snare.
Then back to the racktom 1. If I hit the center of the racktom, the 82 Racktom 1 rimshot is sometimes triggered immediately after, meaning I get double hits, sometimes more than one. It seems to happen randomly. And sometimes, I do not get a proper sound when hitting, just the rimshot, even when hitting in the middle of the tom. See attached picture 2.
Similar things happen on the other toms, but then it is a closed cymbal that seems to be triggered irregularly.
I use the Roland TD17 as default. I have downloaded the latest Roland firmware. I have tried different drum sets. I have restarted. The usb setting in the Roland module is set to “Vendor”.
What to do?
Hi Johan – I recently found that when I was hitting toms on my TD20, the cymbals shown in SD3 would sometimes move. I figured it was very subtle crosstalk happening. I solved this by assigning the toms and the cymbals to the same Crosstalk group inside the module. Perhaps this will work for you, otherwise maybe others will chime in with other suggestions….

Thanked by: Johan DoveliusThanks for your reply! This is a bit embarrassing. I have spent a lot of time to figure out this cross talk thing. I followed your suggestion and learned a lot. And I was so hooked up on the idea that it had to do with the connection between the drum brain and SD3, as I saw this mysterious notes and triggers in SD3. I missed the obvious – the cable to the racktom 1 had slightly got out of the position. Not enough to make it silent, but enough to make the rimshot being triggered by other pads. I thought it was a high tech problem. 😳
Im new to sd3 just got a Roland VAD507 rig with an extra floor Tom extra crash and a roland BT-1 bar trigger to use as a cowbells etc…
At first.. I went through the learn process. Setup a VST only (no sounds kit in the TD-27 and had everything working great! When I opened up studio one 5 and tried the setup in studio one.. my cowbell bar trigger started triggering my extra crash cymbal sound.. I tried re-learning the extra crash (3) back to its China cymbal which worked but now my Roland bar trigger is also triggering the crash. not sure what happened here.. and the kicker!! Now when I go to use sd3 in standalone mode the same thing is now happening.
many guidance on how to fix this would be awesome as I truly need.. more cowbell! Lol..
Thanks! Johnny Marsi

Hi Johnny,
is your TD-27 module at factory settings?
Did you start by loading the TD-27 MIDI Preset on the MIDI In/E-drum Settings page in SD3 and tweak from there?
Did you save the tweaked TD-27 MIDI Preset as your own User preset?
BR,
John

These issues might be linked to pad sensitivity settings within the Drum module. For example, if two pads are mounted on or near the same stand, one can sometimes trigger the other, often influenced by the force used to hit the pad.
