How do you trigger the note(s), please?

You have checked the Velocity of these notes in question on the bottom of the Grid Editor Tab?

I would assume you can’t make this statement without first confirming all velocities are exactly the same.

After I noticed the differences playing on my keyboard, I triggered the notes in the EZkeys UI with mouse click to the piano keys itself.

    Thanks for the tip.
I have recorded C3 up to G4. I triggered the notes in the EZkeys UI with mouse click to the piano keys itself:
And this is what I read in the Grid Editor:
    Note C3 D3 E3 F3 G3
    Velo 80 82 85 77 74

The second time (again mouse click on individual notes)
    Note C3 D3 E3 F3 G3
    Velo 81 91 88 94 82

The behavior is even with mouse click in the UI not consistent.

Only if I produce the sound in the Grid Editor with “Humanize” deactivated, I read on all keys consistantly a velocity of 76.

This suggest to me, that some kind of “Humanize” is active during key strokes via key press and mouse click on UI.

    First run
    Note C3 D3 E3 F3 G3
    Velo 80 82 85 77 74

The second time (again mouse click on individual notes)
    Note C3 D3 E3 F3 G3
    Velo 81 91 88 94 82

It would be fantastic if “Humanize” or something similar could be turned of in order to achieve consistency. There is some randomness involved. Recording my mouse clicks on the piano UI (Keys) I read in the Grid Editor following values:

    Fourth group in the picture:

    Note: C3 D3 E3 F3 G3 A3 B3 C4
    Velo: 89  87  92 77 80 84 87  78

The drop between E3 F3 from 92 to 77 is very exaggerated and somewhat unpleasent. Some “humanization” may be ok, but this is particularly pronounced.

A feature to deactivate “randomness” or “humanization” would be perfect.

We’re looking at vertical keys on the Keys Tab. The bottom of the keys are high velocity and the tops are low velocity. This is intended for auditioning, not recording. SO you can quickly audition the sound of a preset.

The Humanize button is at the top of the Grid Editor for drawing notes in at a consistent velocity. After deselecting, it will constantly draw the last velocity level used.

My opinion… The average user is either using the EZKeys included midi or drawing the midi in themselves. If you want to perform/record with ezkeys, the typical situation is you have a keyboard plugged into it or you’re sending midi to it from another program.

The things that are throwing you off are great features that EZkeys has to offer, IMO. You will get a workflow going and be trailblazing soon.

What you were experiencing is not an inconsistency on ToonTrack’s part. The inconsistency is more on where you are clicking on the piano key itself. The piano UI is a metaphoric method mainly for auditioning notes at various velocities, depending on where you click on the key. Just as in a real piano, clicking higher up on the key will result in less velocity. Hence less volume. Clicking lower on the key is the same pressing near the edge of the key on a piano. Even with the same amount of force, there will be more leverage on the key producing a greater volume.

I would suggest that if you want more consistency, use the pencil tool in the  Grid Editor for entering your notes.
