I am using superior drummer with sonar. I am trying to figure out the best way to use the editor with superior drummer along with the host program. Is there a way to link the space bar/timeline in the midi editor with the host editor.? When trying to create Trump parts, is really not intuitive to have the space bar, play function not linked between the two. Hopefully this makes sense!
Are you loading S3 as a plugin in Sonar? If so, make sure the Follow Host button in the Transport bar is activated and when you hit the space bar (play/stop) both your DAW and the S3 Song Track will sync.

Thanks for your reply. Whether I insert SSD three as a soft sent or as a plug-in on an audio track and if follow host is engaged it still does the same thing.
For example, say I click on measure three in the host program, then I open superior drummer and insert a groove starting at measure six. I can’t click measure six on the SD3 timeline and have a play from there. It starts at measures three of the host program. That means I have to click on measure six in the host program to hear The part that I’ve added at measures six. Again follow host is engaged and I’m not sure if I’m missing something but it would just be easier and more effective to use the sd3 editor.
for sd2, I’d drake grooves on to the timeline and assemble there. I can do that with sd3, but that would bypass the sd3 editor, which is cool!
Yes, that’s the way Follow Host works. S3 follows the host timeline position and play/stop transport control.
To not have that happen, you’ll need to click on the play button in the S3 Song Track.

I thought I’d be out of luck on this one. I get that clicking unfollow host would allow me to listen to that section, but then I can’t hear it in context of the track.
o well. May make a nice addition, but no one else probably has an issue with it!
I think it’s a limitation of the VST specification in that it will send the transport start position out from the host DAW at run time or if requested by a plug-in, but it does not “listen” for a change in the start position from a plug-in. So I am not sure it’s possible with any VST virtual instrument with a separate time line component.

Thanked by: BgstoelbBrad, you are probably right. This is the first Vst I’ve used with its own timeline. Personally, it disrupts the flow that i’m used to, to have to worry about two timelines. Which leads me to decide whether to drag the groves onto sonars timeline or work with the change. Dragging onto sonars timeline would bypass the sd3 editor, which seems fairly useful.
It would be helpful if SD3 could operate the host’s transport controls. Waves pitch correction plugin achieves this by using an additional plugin called “rewire”which allows you to control the Pro Tools transport and timeline from within the waves plug-ins.
I got it to work:
I found (on mac) if “Follow Host” button is disabled in SD3, then I held down “OPT” Then pressed SPACEBAR, it would play or stop Superior Drummer 3, without activating the play button on logic. Hope that helps someone 🙂
Hi TMerry,
Option+Space is for Start/Pause on Mac, Shift+Space is Start/Stop; the former pausing the Playhead and picking up where paused, the latter returning the Playhead to its last insertion point.
