Using percussion with other kits

I’m trying to use the bass drum sound from the Cocktail kit on beat 1 and a tambourine hit on beats 2 and 3 in a 3/4 pattern, but I can’t seem to find a way to do it.

Since the tambourine is not a part of the Cocktail kit (not that I could find anyway), I couldn’t find a way to play it. So I tried to use the One-shot tambourine. I couldn’t seem to be able to play that from the MIDI keyboard, so I tried simply playing the One-shot tambourine with the mouse while recording a MIDI track in Reaper (the same way I do when recording drum parts, only this time clicking on the drums in EZD2 with the mouse), and this wouldn’t record anything. In fact, it wouldn’t register any mouse-clicked drum when recording. I could hear it, but the MIDI activity level in the track wasn’t appearing the way it does when I play the drums from a MIDI controller.

Can anyone clue me in? I read the FAQ about triggering the percussion sounds, but that didn’t seem to answer it for me.

I can record percussion pad hits to the Song Track just by clicking them while EZdrummer 2 is recording.
Which version number is displayed in the plugin interface?

My EZD2 version is 2.0.2.

Are you talking about recording in your host DAW or using the Song Creator? I’ve never used the latter.

OK,

latest version currently is 2.1.1. I was referring to the EZdrummer 2 Song Track. Hit record+play and click the percussion pads. You can then Quantize and use the Edit Play Style to modify before you drag and drop to your DAW.

Ok, I don’t know what’s going on now. I just downloaded the 2.1.1 version update and installed it. It told me that I already had that versions installed. I continued with the “repair installation” option just to be sure, and it said it finished without any issues. But still when I check “About EZD2” under the Menu, it says “2.0.2,” and I’m still getting the “Some MIDI packs require a newer version of EZDrummer ….” message when I first open EZD2 in a project that I mentioned in the other thread. I’ve already tried restarting. I’m on Windows 7.

(This would also explain why the Toontrack site wasn’t showing an “update available” for EZD2 — because I’d already done it.)

Also, I tried your method above of recording the percussion in the Song Track of EZD2, and that worked, but I can’t find a way to turn on the metronome. The manual says it’s accessible via the the “Settings” menu, but I went through everything in the menu and couldn’t find a metronome anywhere.

Hi,

did you move or copy the ‘EZdrummer.dll’ file post initial install?
If you have run the 2.1.1 installer but still have the 2.0.2 interface, it indicates several .dll files on your system.
Please close all programs and perform a Search on your system for ‘EZdrummer.dll’. Delete all that show up in the result list.
Re-install 2.1.1.
Now, if your DAW doesn’t pick up the new version automatically, you need to point it to the location of the .dll file instad of moving or copying it manually. Doing that causes troubles like the ones you are experiencing now.
Also make sure you point to the right flavor, i.e. if you are using a 64-bit DAW, you need to point it to the .dll file in the ‘C:Program Files’ path and if you are using a 32-bit DAW, it needs the .dll file in the ‘C:Program Files (x86)’ path.

The Metronome is only available in the Standalone app, not in the plugin you load in your DAW.
