I am currently using STRIKE with an expansion fill added but to be honest I find there are not near enough presets styles.
I’m working on a 74 song project at the moment some of which are older sessions created years ago on hard disc recorders etc. These old recordings were imported into ProTools using LE version 7. I now run 7.4.
The project includes recordings in various styles including Rock, Jazz, blues, Irish Traditional, Reggae, Ska, blues all sorts.
My problem with STRIKE is its style presets. For example one of these 74 recordings is a very and I mean very simple country music session and when I attempted to audition and match a strike style for this tune nothing seemed to match the recording without a hell of a lot of tweaking!!!! It can be done but to be honest in certain cases it would have been better and quicker for me to programme a sequence myself to suit the recording from the ground up!! Thus defeating the purpose of a plugin like STRIKE.
As a result I am looking for an alternative. I have worked for years in Studios both as an engineer and session player.
I’m looking for something that will sound good in a relatively short period with a minimal adjusting so I can move on to the next session and so on.
I am about to upgrade my Macs but am waiting until my new building is finished. Apple may release a 6 or 8 cor machine by then so am waiting in case. In the meantime I am using a Power PC Mac PowerBook G4 – 1.67 Ghz and 2 gig RAM. This machine came out of a small home project studio I had at home. Will EZ drummer work with good results on this machine. I would appreciate your views.
