Have you confirmed that the midi values generated for a closed hit on the hi-hat (watching the midi monitor box) is matching the closed edge (or whatever hi-hat  articulation you want) midi note that SD3 is expecting (in the midi mapping box)?

Hey, thanks for the reply! I’m checking that. I’ve tried clicking on the Start Calibration tab in SD3, it’ll say “listening for hi-hat pedal movement” and then I do the closed, open and closed on my hats but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Is there another way to see what midi values I’m generating? I’m only getting 2 sounds at this point when I play, the completely open washy sound and when I close the hat’s I’ll get the single click from closing the hats together. It’s washy completely closed or open.

I believe you should be seeing many midi note triggers in the midi monitor as you move the hihat from open to closed and back with the pedal (no hits).  If you are not seeing that, there might be some issue with the mapping or midi preset, or the connection/config with the module.

I would start with the basics like: does the module itself do what you expect with the hihat, then what is the module’s hihat midi setting, then what is your SD3 midi preset, then are you getting correct midi values in SD3 for other triggers, then are you getting any midi notes for hihat pedal movement.  Basically start from the module and validate that you’re getting what you expect, then work your way to SD3 taking it one step at a time.

    Hi,

it sounds as if your module either isn’t sending the CC data from the foot controller or something is filtering it out.

Are you using the standalone? Do you have any other host like Logic, Reaper or Garageband? If so, what happens if you record HH movement? Does it register the CC data (CC4) from the module?

John, good question. I see where you’re going with this. So I just now recorded my hats in to Logic and from what I can tell I’m only receiving a few midi messages. In the midi transport window of Logic it shows 3 different notes have been played and I not only just opened and closed the hats but hit them every which way. Does that lead you to believe it’s the module? I might try resetting my kit to default and then come back to SD3 once I see the hats are still working properly on there own still. I’ll let you know what happens and if you have any more ideas please lmk, thx!

Hi Ian, the amount of different notes (as in different keys/note numbers) is probably correct but if you don’t have any Foot Controller data (CC4), it is likely not sent from the module. Have you checked all cables involved?

Also, you need to make sure you are viewing the correct lane if you double-click the part you recorded.
Please see my attached screen shot where I recorded the Edge, Tip and Bell trigger articulations but used the Modulation wheel (CC1) for openness.

CC_data_LogicSo make sure you have clicked the stuff I have circled with orange in the picture and in your case it would be CC4 instead of CC1.

Hey John, thanks again for this reply! I haven’t been back here since I got things working so apologies for the late response. I believe my problem was that the powered usb cable I’m using wasn’t getting power. Kinda dumb. I’m surprised it was sending any info at all. It’s possible this isn’t the complete answer since I was trying everything I could to get things working at the time. The good news is that things are fine now with the hats. And thanks for all your help. Any good tips on calibrating the snare? I ofter times will have to edit my performance because things are pretty inconsistent. For instance the difference between “zone trigger” and “rimshot”. Why does it choose one or the other? I feel like my playing isn’t very sporadic and yet I spend a fair amount of time combing through to make sure things are the way I intended to play them.
