Like the Subject line says, I’m unable to delete install files from desktop.
Started with: TT120_EZX_Jazz_WIN.exe, from which extracts this folder:
TT120_EZX_Jazz_WIN
The installation is all done (finally) but now, I have this folder on my desktop. Even when I go to properties and un-check the “read only” box, and also select all child folders as well, after I “apply” and hit “OK”, when I try to delete the folder, I get an error message to the effect, “files are read-only or still in use”. Upon checking the properties again, they have magically become “read only” once again!
I’m assuming I don’t need these files, as I already have C:Program FilesToontrackEZDrummerEZX_Jazz in place.
Anyone had this happen?
Thanks in advance,

Have you rebooted the computer and tried to delete the folder after boot up?

Yes, I have. No go.
I did a search here and found this: http://www.toontrack.com/forum/m.aspx?m=78142&mpage=1&key=delete
Re-printed from a post at the end of the thread:
Try this;
– Open up a command prompt and navigate to the directory where the file resides.
– Start a task manager session (close all other programs)
– In the task manager, end process “explorer.exe”
– delete the file from the command prompt; “DEL “.
– In the task manager; file -> New Task (Run) enter; explorer.exeLet me know if that works….
I haven’t tried this yet, as I’m a bit apprehensive. IIRC, the last time I tried killing the explorer.exe process, it basically killed Windows…..
News Update:
Even though the files remain “read only”, I am now able to delete!
Thanks!
good to hear it!
fwiw, killing “explorer.exe” doesn’t actually kill Windows so much as killing your interface to Windows (you can actually replace explorer.exe with a totally different interface (called a “shell”))
usually, it’ll restart automatically, but in the cases where it doesn’t, you can still Ctrl-Alt-Del, bring up the Task Manager, and there should be a “Run” option available… type “explorer” and run it and it should bring it back
that said, these days, if a file’s locked like that, what I use is Process Explorer’s “Find handle or DLL…” menu and that will usually find the specific process (usually an application) that is holding onto the file. Then I’ll kill that app or process. It’s a little bit more precise and safe than just killing Explorer outright, though that usually shouldn’t harm anything either.
