Thanks MintberryCrunch, could you explain a bit more please?

I thought the benefit of recording directly into SD3 was that I could use the TD17 preset and so avoid crazy double hits and MIDI notes triggered all over the place 🙂

If you are getting those kind of problems in your DAW, then you have a set up issue.

Logic gives you three options to record MIDI:

    1. Merge
    2. Replace
    3. Take Folders

Take Folders is the most advantageous as it will allow you to grab MIDI chunks out of each take.

    Thanks Jord.

I’m still not quite understanding – does the MIDI recorded directly in SD3 (i.e. in the song track) match that in the DAW track?

I thought that while I could set the DAW to switch off merge or use takes, SD3 would just overlay data regardless.

The reason I’m asking all of this is that I thought the benefit of recording directly into SD3’s song track was that SD3 would use the V-Drums preset and so it would reduce a lot of the double hits and general craziness.

As I stated before, if you were getting those type of MIDI problems, then there is a problem with how the drums are set up. SD3 won’t eliminate MIDI problems by using the mapping preset. All the mapping preset does is just that: maps the drum controller’s MIDI to trigger SD3’s articulations.

When you record the MIDI in your DAW, you don’t need to record it into SD3. You would then play the MIDI from your Instrument track within your DAW triggering SD3 using the drum mapping preset.
