    Hi,

if you record/merge your arrangement to a new Arranger Track in EZplayer, you can drag-and-drop this as a MIDI file; either back to the EZplayer browser or to your Desktop for export.
The ‘tts’ file is a Toontrack solo Project file, so it is not a MIDI file. It can only be read by Toontrack solo and contains the total info on the Project’s setup.

To record/merge a bunch of separate MIDI onto a single track, drag and drop your MIDI in your Arranger tracks as you want. Then create a new, empty track and hit the red ‘Arm this track’ button for that track. Then hit the red ‘start recording’ button at the bottom and all your MIDI will get recorded to the ‘Arm this track’ track.

Thanks for your reply. That’s what I did and it indeed creates a new track ‘recorded midi’. But I thought I did something wrong as I cannot drag & drop this track to my desktop or save it as midi. It doesn’t show up on my desktop. Can you please tell me how to save it as midi file?
    Sorry again,

Select your ‘MY MIDIFILES’ folder in the EZplayer browser and drag it there. It will be saved there.

Thanks Scott! I saved it in MY MIDIFILES! Sorry but now comes the last (I hope) final question, how can I save this file to my USB stick to transfer it to my Fantom. When I go to the My Midifiles folder I only see a dummy file there and not the file I just saved?

Are there multiple ‘My Midifiles’ folders on your system? Make sure you are looking in the same folder where you have the EZplayer MIDI that shows in the EZplayer browser. I have mine stored on an external drive so the path reads: F:EZdrummerMidiMY MIDIFILES. Make sure you are looking in the MY MIDIFILES (all CAPS) folder.

Thanks Scott. I have the same path for my midi files, but the MY MIDFILES folder is all empty, except a dummy file, while it shows the created midi file under my midifiles in the EZplayer. It’s weird.

Sorry I found them!! I had to click compatibility files on top of the folder and then they showed up. Thanks again for your help!

Great post… pretty close to what I’m doing with my own Casio PX-3 keyboard. Question: I have EZDrummer and a Latin Percussion extra… Do I need EZPlayer to export in the above fashion as MIDI, or is it possible with ToonTrack Solo? I have been using Garage Band and an iPod but would like to eliminate the iPod and just use the memory stick for the keyboard. EZPlayer looks interesting and would be cheaper than Logic, or one of the other sequencers.

you need some sort of ‘song builder’ tool, yes. EZplayer pro from inside solo will do that to an extend (it is not a ‘note level editor’, with both pros and cons), but GarageBand is more than adequate.

… I’m not quite sure what role your ipod played but it sounds like that’s just how you exported your MIDI from GarageBand, which is not a requirement. So in essence what I’m trying to say is that while EZplayer may be a good tool to have for you as an alternative to GarageBand, it’s unlikely a direct solution to whatever predicament you are trying to resolve.

As with Hans, I play piano/keyboards and sing and will be using ToonTrack software to create percussion groove tracks which I’d like to save to a memory card and plug into the card slot on my keyboard. The problem with Garageband is that it doesn’t export as MIDI which is all my keyboard will accept. The iPod will accept Garageband exported files but I’d rather use the card option as it would be simpler to control with less gear to drag around.

OK, I’m with you. Then yes, EZplayer pro will do nicely as you can build a song and export it to the ‘MY MIDIFILES’ folder, or directly to the desktop on most systems.

You do need to know though that by default the export will be assigned to MIDI channel 1, which may be an issue for your purpose, but there are (simple) workarounds which I’m happy to go into details in the support section if you decide to go ahead and add EZplayer to your arsenal.

oh, I thought this was posted in the ‘pre-sales’ section, sorry, I might as well give you a comprehensive answer then 🙂

to export MIDI on channel 10 from EZplayer pro (which may be desirable for your GM device), make sure to select the MIDI output > channel 10 on the track used to build your song (as well as the GM drums wrapper, of course, to ensure proper mapping). Then record arm another track and record the arrangement there, assigning the MIDI to the appropriate channel in the process.

Last export to the desktop by drag and drop (it should work on all Mac OS versions supported at this stage), or the MY MIDIFILES folder.

    I hope this helps.

I should point out however, re-reading your query, that all you are going to do is play your keyboard’s sounds, at which point exporting as audio may still be a better option, otherwise, besides having access to the MIDI grooves that came with your Toontrack software, the combination solo+ezplayer is not really going to bring a lot of benefit.

… still, depending on your needs, you will indeed be able to generate MIDI tracks compliant with General MIDI, though I should point out that conversion of your Latin Percussion grooves may be hit and miss as the set is not a 1:1 mirror of a GM bank. YMMV…
