I have three modules that I am connecting to SD3: Roland TD-27, Alesis Strike Pro, and an EDrumIn (4). SD3 sees all three devices. When I just use the TD-27 and EDrumIn, they work perfectly. I use the TD-27 preset and use the Learn function for the eDrumIn triggers.
However, once I connect the Strike Pro, that’s when I have issues. I cannot separate the notes, even after I have gone it to remap in the module. For example — every time I get FloorTom2 to trigger properly, then Cymbal 4 takes on the floor tom voice. Same with the rim. And, SD3 does not like the two hit-hat inputs.
Now, interestingly, I can get it work in Fusion EZX (loaded inside SD3) — which has the massive kits, and I even add a couple of instruments. But I cannot get this three-module configuration to work in any SD3 kit with added instruments.
I have realized midi mapping is a technical art, which I struggle with. So — I’m looking for advice/guidance on how to connect all three modules and have all triggers/articulations work in SD3.
My kit is:
Ride
primary hihat
primary snare
6 toms
1 x gong
2 x octobans
1 x side snare
4 x crash cymbals
2 x china
1 x-hat
2 x splash
1 x tambourine
1 x foot trigger pedal
1 x side tom
So you have all three modules sending different notes? If not then you need to. I would record every midi output from each module and write down the note numbers and make sure there are no duplicates. Once you have all unique notes numbers then manually apply them in the edrum settings. Learn is ok but hard with anything either more than one zone.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
Follow what Mark says but also pay attention to your module routing as edrumin 4 doesn’t have many inputs and outputs if this is your host. Which “module” is the host ? I use edrumin 10 as it is the host and has both MIDI in (for older Yam module) and USB A Host in (for Newer Yam module) and then USB B goes into laptop. See attached screenshot of edrumin ins/outs. I have a similar large kit like you have and as Mark says you need to write down note numbers for each “module” and cannot have duplicates. I keep this all in a spreadsheet.
Dell Precision 7730, i7 6 Core 2.6 GHz, 128GB RAM, 1TB SSD and 3 x 2TB SSD, Windows 11, Cubase Pro 14, SD3 plus a variety of SDX's and EZX's, Orchestral Percussion, EZBASS, RME BabyFace Pro FS and KRK V4 monitors. Modified Yamaha DTX900, DTXPRESS4 and Edrumin10 triggering SD3. Yamaha pads/cymbals and Roland VH-10 HiHat. PDP Maple acoustic kit for live playing.
Mark and Andrew, thank you both. It worked. I dug in deep and got it ironed out. Figured out how to reassign midi notes and send/save them. Also figured out how to audition midi notes real-time in both the Strike and the eDrumIN, which actually turned out to be a preferred route. Now the whole system works like a charm — three going into one computer, one instance of SD3. Awesome sound. Love it.
thanks!

Excellent job. I’ve been doing that for years. My units are the original Yamaha 450K and two Alesis I/O. units. The cool thing about is that there are 10 program changes so theoretically I could add a whole bunch of instruments and program the note numbers for say a orchestral kit on prg 2 and a bagpipe kit on prg 3 etc. only problem is there’s only 127 numbers to choose from I don’t have a lot of patches and or drum sounds other than the Latin percussion pack, there are so many drum sounds in just the basic sd3
I am however looking for a replacement Yamaha one zone 7 1/2 inch drum it would appear that one of mine failed. I have thought of upgrading to newer mesh heads but I can’t find anything in 7 1/2 inch. i dont have th space on the rack
Sorry for any misspelled or nonsensical words I am using the wind
