Hello all,
I’m a new user to EZ bass and am using it to convert audio (guitar) to midi bass lines. I’m primarily using this when creating demos for songs in the metal genre. Prior to purchasing I watched lots of tutorials and they all made it seem super simple to play lines and convert to midi but whenever I do it I get a garbled mess that does not in any way resemble the original guitar part. The timing and notes seem completely random.
I’ve tried trouble shooting but don’t really know what the issue is. I am using a clean guitar tone (DI) and am playing quite simple lines. If there are any resources/guides to help me navigate this I’d appreciate it. I’m sure it’s an issue on my end otherwise all of the content out there showcasing this awesome plug in wouldn’t be so unanimously positive.
Thanks in advance!
if you record the guitar into a WAV file and drag that into EZB does it work? (vs using the audio sender)

thats a good suggestion Fossile thanks! I remember trying this in the past but it was a while ago so I just tried it again now. It’s ok with a very basic line (say just playing quarter notes) but anything more complex there seems to be a lot of random notes, drastic changes in velocity, etc. If I were reading this comment I’d definitely think it’s an issue with the performance or using a distorted signal but I’m using a guitar DI and and mindful about unwanted string noise and playing the notes with as much of an even attack as I can.
I still think your suggestion will be my go to workflow. It’s an extra couple of steps to record the audio and move them manually into EZbass but I find it easier than using the audio sender. What is your workflow like?
keep in mind, MIDI guitar -> to synth — you must play really really clean. i turn down the treble and use the neck pickup so extraneous pick and other noises are not readily input, and if you do the file method, consider cleaning up the audio before trying to convert. another thing i do (when i’m not actually using a bass) is to use Melodyne and simple drop things an octave (or two) and clean up there and generate the MIDI from that. then use that with my VI.
