I opened ezplayer in an instrument track, as per manual, and set it to midi channel 1 and to superior 2 in the midiwrap. opened and audio track with superior drummer as an insert (the same way other samplers work). The superior drummer 2 will monitor midi notes from a midi track fine. But I can’t find a way to monitor the ezplayer track, other then dragging midi segments to a midi track. I have tried audio and auxiliary input tracks for both ezplayer and sd2, but no matter what I do I cant hear the sound when I pick a drum pattern to preview. The pattern is actively previewing in eztracks: picked a groove, hit the arrow and all.
Help!
My system is 2.8g core2duo pc, 4g ram, digirack003, protools le 7.4 all software updated (protools, superior drummer 2, toontracks solo, ezplayer, all most recent).

Well, I think I figured it out, man it is convoluted though. Had to get to the mixer, set midi input to ezplayer channel 1, output to sup drummer multiout channel 1, then go to instrament track in sequencer window and record arm it. this is after setting up SD 2 in an audio track as and insert, and setting the midiwrap stuff in ezplayer to ch 1 and superior drummer 2. whew! I hope I can remember all this.

From what I can tell from your posts the only thing you hadn’t done was arm the tracks.
Not so convoluted I think.
I had the same problem, but then I looked it up in the EZplayer manual (PDF).
Page 30 for Pro Tools.
You gotta read the manuals!
I read the manual a bunch of times (actually, it’s still open on my desktop, lol), but there is some confusion:
1) Inserting the plugin:
• Insert the EZplayer plugin on a Mono Instrument Track
2) Setting up:
• Create an Instrument Track with YFDS instantiated on
• Enable the ‘Instruments’ section at the top of the Pro Tools mixer to access MIDI I/O
• Set the MIDI Output to YFDS
• Change the Input to EZplayer and the appropriate MIDI channel
• Record-arm the MIDI track with YFDS
• In EZplayer, choose the appropriate MIDI Output format for YFDS
• Select a groove in EZplayer and press Play
The above cut/pasted from the manual. The red line up there– there is no midi track. You can’t insert a sampler onto a midi track in protools. You need an audio track. It’s the actual instrument track you need to arm. Also, protools is kind of quirky in this way: sometimes I see the instrument control in the sequencing window, and sometimes not, depending on what the settings have been in a given project. Same with the mix window. Great program, but complex.
You’re right though, once you see it, it does not seem too convoluted.

Ok, there seems to be an error in Toontrack’s terminology.
Pro Tools allows both a ‘midi-track’ and an ‘instrument track’.
YFDS means your favourite drum sampler and as Superior 2 was on an instrument track and that was the track where the midi was triggering it I automatically armed it without thinking whether it was a midi track or not.
Right,
the manual needs updating in this aspect and it has already been looked into. It was a mix-up with the former EZplayer Free manual.
However, this is also from the very same manual:
This documentation assumes basic knowledge of operating your sequencer program
and Your Favorite Drum Sampler (referred to in the rest of this manual as YFDS). It
is imperative that you have a good grasp of MIDI routing as EZplayer, while a simple
product in operation, relies on the host capabilities to provide the appropriate bridging
between EZplayer and YFDS.
We’re always happy to help here, though.
The Instrument view (with MIDI I/O) of the mixer in Pro Tools is Enabled/Disabled via the Mixer View Menu found at the left bottom corner of the Mixer Window.

I’ve followed the step by step set up for EZ Player w/Sup.2.0 in Pro Tools and have not been able to hear/preview anything played from the Ez Player window or drag & drop files into Pro Tools8??
I can trigger the sounds in Superior from my midi KB but cannot hear any playback of the internal grooves?
What could I have disabled???? I swear it worked on a session last night but when I opened the saved session it would no longer let me hear or drag and drop files?
Please let me know if you have any ideas.
Cheers,
John

Have you put the ‘Instrument Track’ where Superior is parked into record.
You don’t need to record anything, just arm them (record enable) in order to hear EZplayer triggering the sounds.
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I have armed the ‘instrument track’ where Superior is parked.
I understand that I shouldn’t have to record to hear it but I’ve tried everything I can think of and I cannot preview/hear anything from the EZ Player or drag and drop files??

After some more searching on here I am now able to preview/hear grooves in EZ player but still not able to drag and drop files to construct tracks in EZ or Pro Tools…..ARGHH
Could the drag & drop function not work correctly because of a midi routing issue even though I can preview grooves?
I’ll Keep Searchin’!

Yeah, well, you gotta start somewhere. I do have some gaps I have yet to fill in with PT. I have been using VI’s on audio tracks with midi tracks routed to them for years, but never had to set something up quite like EZ Player. So, yes, I took a look at the manual.

Well,
you shouldn’t use Audio Tracks + MIDI Tracks for your Toontrack plugins, especially not when setting up S2 and EZplayer Pro. It complicates the setup unnecessarily.
Please open the attached example Session to see how to.

Yes, I know John, I was referring to other VI’s (but Toontracks are my favorites!).
However, thanks for the sample. I have to say, the more I use this product and refer to the boards here, the more impressed with your customer service. It is really a great feeling knowing that there are folks who really know the product and care about helping out their customers– especially with getting over some of the basic hurdles that less experienced DAW users (ahem, like myself) face. Also, I just discovered your video tutorials, which are fantastic.
If there were a testimonials page, I would post there, both extolling the great sounds and features of SD, and the helpfulness of people like yourself, and the other Techs here.

I’m having the same problem, but it’s still going! When I click on the MIDI input selector all I see is my M-Audio FW410. I don’t see EZPlayer or EZDrummer. These are only visible in the MIDI Outout selectors.
I’ve had EZDrummer for a while and have got it working well so I think I know enough about MIDI stuff. Hope you can help… I am full of despair right now….
