Hey everyone !
I own the Roland td11k model which has 3 pd-8A Tom pads and one pdx-8 snare pad.
I’ve noticed while recording with EZ drummer 2
My toms only get registered if I hit them in the center and if I hit a little on the sides(a little away from the center and not the rim), the note registered is either low or half.
Will upgrading to the pdx-8 as it’s dual zone make any difference ?
And a question about hi hat ( I use the cy5) triggering with ez drummer 2, notes seem to double up sometimes or I can’t get clean open and close hi hat sound and even the the foot pedal gives an incomplete sound.
(The hi hat closes fully and is not left half open when I set it to the generic mode instead of the Roland mode but still have the problems mentioned above in both modes (Roland preset and generic present).

Hi !O!
Indeed the PD-8A have only one trigger while the PDX-8 have two. So there will be a big difference (improvement 🙂 ).
For the hi-hat. The CY-5 cymbal is very (very) basic. So I guess the hi-hat stand is FD-8.
To put it simply : it’s impossible to expect optimal results from this entry level material.
What I will do to solve these problems at the base (at the start) is to get better quality elements (which will also improve the game confort).
For the Charleston : take a VH-11 or 12.
Hope it’ll help you

Thank you so much and yes I’ve been meaning to upgrade for quite some time now.
Which drumset do you think is the best in the market ?
Td30k has been discontinued,so I don’t think it makes sense if I go in for one of those and why is there is such a huge price difference between the td 25 and td 50 ? Is the td 50 really worth the money ?
Isnt hot spot an issue as well ? I’m pretty most of the time I hit in the centre and I don’t want that to become an issue and that’s one of the reasons that’s holding me from upgrading to these pads as well. Any thoughts ?
Hi !O!
My experience: I have two Roland batteries (very good equipment) with TD-12 modules.
Why the TD-12 module? : This box is complete: MIDI, many pad settings, many pad connections and I don’t use the module sounds but the Toontrack kits.
The difference between TD-25 (or 12 or other …) with TD-50. The TD-50 has this of superior (not to mention the price !!) that it is “professional” and the sounds are much better MODELED (more design time and technology = more expensive). In addition, all the elements are at the top!
For my part, I chose to start on good Roland hardware (pads, VH-11 etc …) and a complete module (see complex at first sight) which I then use as an “interface” whose connection MIDI allows me to use the Toontrack Kits which are captured in the best conditions! So in my configuration an “interface” TD-12, 25
I left out the sounds from the original TD-12 module. I found TD-12 modules on e-bay at $ 550.
In my configuration, have a module that uses a well-designed MIDI interface at $ 550 (TD-12) or $ 2,500 (TD-50). My choice is quickly made! 🙂
Regarding the center hit, I would say that you should not stay “blocked” in a restrictive comfort zone.
A drummer should use all of the available surfaces and areas for better expression. So there is no “good quick fix” apart from “working” 🙂
Hope it’ll help you
