I’m sure I will not state this correctly in that I’m not well versed in Orchestral “speak”. Please bear with me.
In the four Timp’s that are part of the Orchestral package I purchased I see that you can tune each timp to several different notes/tuning. Wonderful. The question I have is, can you change the tuning for any of the four (4) timps “dynamically” over the course of the track/session….or are just locked into the tuning from start to end?
Does that make sense?
great question! did you get a response. I’d love this too
Hi, would like to add a “me too” on this question.
I’ve got a number of AudioFront eDrumin devices on my e kit that have 1-2 pedal inputs each (various types supported – ie, MIDI expression pedal, sustain pedal, volume pedal, hi-hat pedal, hall effect sensors, etc.) so I have multiple extra pedal input ports.
It would be tremendous to be able to dynamically tune the pitch of the timpani instruments in the Orchestral SDX via pedal input, and it would also be awesome to be able to do the same with the timpanis featured in the Legacy of Rock SDX (which I just purchased). 🙂
If that is possible, or something that could maybe happen with an update I sure would be interested to find out. Even if only the Orchestral Percussion SDX could do it, that alone would definitely be a reason I would buy it.
Thanks.

Hi,
while not being exactly the same as using the Tuning and Process, you can Enable the Pitch FX Property Box, click ‘Real-Time’ and MIDI Learn a controller for changing the Pitch dynamically.

Thanked by: Old TimerThanks John – this is along lines of what I was looking for – ability to use pedal to change pitch of the timpanis playing them “live”.
Do both Orchestral Percussion SDX and Legacy of Rock’s timpanis have ability to map midi control to Pitch FX as you describe or just Orchestral?
Also curious of your opinion on what best type of MIDI pedal would be for this — not brand/model necessarily, but type as in Volume and/or Expression pedal, etc.?
Thanks!

Hi,
the Pitch FX Property is not exclusive to Timpanis, it’s something you can apply to any loaded instrument/articulation.
The alternative to Pitch FX is to spread out as many instruments as you need pitched notes and use process tuning where needed.
You can start with checking out the special Timpani Preset in the Orchestral SDX and maybe import from that one.
I really have no clue when it comes to MIDI pedals and how you can program them, I’m afraid. I hope someone will chime in.

John

Thanked by: Old TimerThanks John – no worries on the pedal type question.
Will dig into this, thanks. I don’t have Orchestral SDX currently but DO have Legacy of Rock, will investigate.

I use an old Roland EV5, connected through an AudioFront MIDI Expression (1 port 1/4 inch to USB MIDI Interface).
In SD3, I bound the Timpani Tuning controller to a Macro Parameter (Macro Paramater 1) and then right click the the Macro Parameter, select MIDI Learn and moved the expression pedal up and down. Worked great.
