I open EZ up through the solo app to drag and drop grooves in to the region area.
When I drag a groove from my regions and drop it in the midi track, the timing is off a not so small amount.
I used ezdrummer with Audition and the groove snapped right to time when dropped in to place.
Is there a setting I’m suppose to set? What can I do to correct this?
I’m not real midi savy. Hopefully it’s something simple.
Thanks,
JR.
First, you should be running EZdrummer in Pro Tools as a virtual instrument and not running Solo and PT at the same time.
I don’t use PT but I think there is a ‘grid mode’.

Hi Scott, thanks for the reply.
When I run EZ as an instrument it works when I create a stereo instrument track to record with EZ but not to drag & drop grooves in. Maybe I’m not setting it up right? I checked out the grid mode but it didn’t seem to help.
Junior101,
are you updated to version 1.3.1? This version number should be visible in the plugin interface.
Which OS and Pro Tools version are you using?

John

Hi John, thanks for the reply.
I am using EZDRUMMER version 1.3.1 and Protools version 8.0.4
My OS is Win XP SP3, 4GB ram, and 500GB HD.
The Soundcard is M-Audio Delta 44

When you zoom into the instrument track in PT, are the MIDI notes off the grid? Do you have a MIDI offset configured? (Event > MIDI Offset).
What is your Grid size?
Mac Studio M1 Max, RAM 64 GB, 1TB Drive, OSX 12.x/13.x and Windows 10 (VM)
DAW: Studio One Pro (always up to date)

OWC Thunderbay Mini (4 X 1TB Sata SSD), Express 4M2 (4 X 2TB M.2 SSD), Envoy Express (1TB M.2 SSD)
Presonus Quantum, Faderport & Faderport 8

Hi Bradch00, Thanks for the reply.
1. The midi notes are off the grid.
2. No MIDI offset is configured =0
3. My Grid size is 1 sec.
Thanks,
JR.
The attached pic shows them on the grid within the editor.
The pic in the next post shows it off the time grid even after I set the grid to ms.
3. My Grid size is 1 sec.
Well, this explains why your timing is off. Set it to ‘Bars’ or ‘1Bar’ and you should be happy about the timing.

John

Hi John,
I set it to bars, dragged and dropped the groove and it’s still off.
The photo I mentioned in the above post is attached here.
You can see that its off in the photo.
Thanks,
JR.
Okay, I’m starting to maybe see things clearer now that I’m set to bars.
It looks like Protools didn’t adjust to the timing of the music bed.
I can see that when I drag and drop a groove in to the track it now looks to snap to the current session time, problem is that time isn’t the time of the music bed.
Yes, I believe my EZDrummer problem is solved with the Bars.
Now I need to figure out how to get ProTools to adjust to the timing of the music track.
Unless you all know something about my ProTools issue I’ll say goodbye and thank you all very much for helping me with this issue.
Thanks Again!
Looks to me like you don’t use a metronome in the first place. and that is your real problem.
Yes, you can’t drag and drop midi-files unless your other instruments conform to the same groove or time.
The top two audio files in your pic look to be divorced from the groove you have set (in the grid).
In effect, EZdrummer is on the grid, and the only thing ‘in time’ in your song.
You can still use EZdrummer, but you have to play it by hand, or with v-drums, or set up some kind of detailed groove map.
However…
The easiest thing to do is what Juicy hints at. Play your other instruments to a metronome (click) in the same groove as the EZdrummer groove you plan to use.
You might (and that’s a big MIGHT) be able to fix your audio by using the warp markers in elastic audio, but…. you would be better off either playing to a metronome, or dragging and dropping a basic drum track first and playing to that.

The music bed is a demo that is my project to record as a song.
I was trying to drag & drop a basic groove on it so I can use it instead of the song’s distracting beat.
With the help of YouTube I was able to figure out the tempo settings in Protools and get it to change the grids so that it matches up to it at 122 bpm.
The learning curve from Adobe Audition to PT is much more difficult than I anticipated.
