    All EZkeys Sound Libraries ship with the same Basic MIDI Library. There are many EZkeys MIDI packs in more specific genres available to expand.

    I think the philosophy is different between keys and drum MIDI. For example, the Alt Rock EZX. It ships with drum sounds plus alt rock MIDI. Of course the drums can be used in and genre but they were produced for that specific style.

    Keyboard libraries are different. The Grand Piano library. That can be used in jazz, rock, pop, latin, movie scores, country…et al. It makes more sense to have a basic MIDI library and then let the user expand in the genres that suit their needs.

    Thanks for the post. I’m just about to download EZKeys, and as an EZ Drummer user, this would have caught me out too. Now I know what to expect.

    The EZKeys midi packs don’t seem too expensive, but it only says “An extensive collection of chord progressions for pop and rock” – it doesn’t how how big the collection is. Likewise ‘Organized in full song structures (intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus and bridge)’, without saying how many full songs they’re organised into. I’ll guess I’ll find out soon enough, but it would be nicer to know roughly how many riffs you get for the 25€.

    I notice some midi packs for EZ piano include drums? how does that work, are they separate midi tracks combined?

    I’m not aware of any MIDI packs that mix Keys and Drums.

    In which packs are you seeing this?

    I recently purchased the expansions of Retro keys clavinet and electric pianos largely for the library of midi files that was planning to use for keyboard parts since I’m not a player. I was disappointed to find that they were sounds only!  It states on the page that you can “use your, own THE INCLUDED, or any third party midi/chord progressions etc.  When I wrote to complain this is the response I was given;

    “The first Regular version that you purchase grants you access to the EZkeys core MIDI library, and any Sound Expansion that is purchased after that only adds to the sounds and presets.”
    Since any Sound Expansion can also be a Regular version, we both have a description for the base EZkeys Software/MIDI and the Sounds on the same product page.”

    That is an incredibly deceptive and disingenuous thing to do to customers. It should be clearly outlined on the page when one is deciding to purchase the product. I’ve bought many other expansions…  Latin bass, countless EZDrummers, Latin Keys, basic jazz, funk, fusion jazz midi …on and on and every one of them came with a files library of patterns, and groove etc. Sadly now I’m stuck with two programs that I have little use for since I already have those sounds in my library. I’m not a keyboard player and I bought them so that I might have a virtual keyboardist for my songwriting which is a MAJOR part of your advertising. I scrape and hustle to save up enough money to buy your products and I spend many hours reading all the specs trying to decide which one I will get. It’s like a kid in a candy store but the candy is not cheap! I’m devastated not only to find out that I was misled by the description, but more importantly I’m shocked that you can treat your customers this callously and not even offer a refund or a way to reasonably opt in for the program that does offer a library.
