So I have a track that I programmed in by hand in Superior Drummer 3 using the Grid Editor. Originally I wanted an open hi-hat bark/splash but have since decided to change a few of those barks to an accented tight edge hit. No matter what I try I cannot get the program to change the articulation once I move the midi note to the new location. Deleting it and writing a new note in doesn’t work. Exporting the midi file and trying to update it using the piano roll in pro tools won’t change it. Duplicating the file and trying to edit the duplicate using the grid editor in a brand new track won’t work. Temporarily writing a snare or kick drum in the location will play the kick or snare until I try dragging it into the desired hi hat articulation and then it will still play a bark instead of a closed hi hat. The one idea I have left I am really trying to avoid and that is printing the tracks and then editing the hi hat articulations manually.
I feel like this must have happened to other people so I really appreciate the help!!

Hi,
are we talking about MIDI on the Pro Tools timeline or on the SD3 Song Track?
If it is the former, there seems to be a Pro Tools bug since 2022.6 but I have personally not seen it until I updated to 2022.7.

It seems the issue occurs with Sample-based MIDI/Instrument Tracks in many cases.
Please try one of the workarounds below
till the next update is released.-Edit notes in slip mode when track is set to “Samples” time base w. Bars|Beats grid.
-Change track to Ticks time base when using Trim Tool in Grid mode w. Bars|Beats grid.
-Set MIDI Editor Grid to something different than Bars|Beats.

Hey John,
It’s actually started and is happening in Grid Editor (or song track) within SD3. However when I exported the midi track from Superior and dragged it onto the piano roll in ProTools I still ran into the same issue. Thank you for your reply and I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks!
Mike
OK,
could you please provide an SD3 Project file where this is happening? Just save it to your Desktop and ZIP Compress it to be able to attach it to a post here.
Also, which version number is displayed in the SD3 interface (lower left corner)?

John

I’m running the latest SD3 as of two days ago since I thought an update might solve the issue, but it did not. Here is the midi file. The area of focus are the hi hat barks. Sometimes I can change them to closed hits, but mostly they won’t change no matter where I place the articulation. I ended up just re-notating the parts again on a separate track yesterday because I really wanted to move forward with the project, but I will attach it here for any investigation and troubleshooting purposes. Thanks!

Hi,
I haven’t actually listened to the MIDI (I’m on a train without headphones right now) but looking at it, I can see a problem.
If you look at the attached screen shot, you see that you have been programming with the separate articulations. Still there is CC4 data there but the CC4 data will only work as expected if you use the ‘Trigger’ articulations, like the ‘Tip Trigger’, ‘Edge Trigger’ and ‘Bell Trigger’. If you remove the CC data, I am sure you will end up with something that sounds like you planned.

Interesting. I have never seen or heard of that before. Though I’m not exactly an expert with the program. I will take a look at it and try to find what you mean. If by chance I can’t find it, is there a function I need to select in the menu to make it appear? Thanks!
Mike
Hi, I circled the lane selector in the picture. This would by Default be set to show Velocity.
