Tesseract Presset not working propperly

All my pressets work fine except the Tesseract one, is that because my poor Macbook Air 8GM memory can’t handle so much Metal power or I should try to re donwload it or something?

What exactly do you mean by ‘work fine’? Where is this Tesseract you speak of? While waiting for your answer do realize that a MacBook Air isn’t going to be really good at anything that requires a lot of processing (not to mention storage space on a hard drive).

It has a lot of latency, it cracks and stops and starts and does not sound good and other stuff… The tesseract presset is from a third party developer. I know a macbook air is not ideal, but all other pressets sound fine enough and I dont experience this kind of problem. This tesseract presset does seem to need a lof of extra power as it is composed from 3 different libraries. thx

Okay so it IS your computer – for the most part. What are your buffer settings for audio? What are you using for audio I/O? Is this standalone or in a daw and if the latter – which daw? Is your MBA Intel or Mac silicon? Are the samples on the system drive?

This is going to be difficult. Not to be insulting but how did you even get started with music on a computer if you don’t know about an audio interface or buffers? An audio interface is a box that connects to your computer to take the digital stream and convert it to audio. I’m assuming you’re not just using the audio output from the computer connected to monitor speakers or headphones.

How large is that preset? From the looks of the thread, it appears that you are loading far more than your computer can handle. Your perceived latency sounds more to do with your laptop paging memory. I will agree that your computer is not able to handle this preset.

I hope you can understand my frustration in trying to help when I ask basic questions that any0ne familiar with computer audio should be able to answer and you answer that you have no idea. I even explained what an audio interface was and you refuse to dialog with me.

Ok, let’s start over.

my knowledge of computer audio is close to zero. I been using addictive drums for playing with my e-kit and recording drums and making covers, for my own pleasure. I have no intention on becoming a profesional musician or anything but I decided to upgrade and I purchased AD3 after reading about its possibilities.

So right now I have the computer I mentioned, I have a Roland Td50x Kit and SD3. No audio interface. That’s all I have and clearly does not seem to be enough.

 

My main question is: It is mandatory for me, in order to be able to use SD3, to get a computer with more RAM than 8GB? Or, as the SD3 website and manual etc. says, with a 8GB is enough? If it is enough, why I am having problems? Would an audio interface, like a focusrite scarlett or something like that work?

8GB is the absolute bare minimum. However, when it comes to audio, the more RAM the better. The guideline for choosing a computer for audio production is CPU->RAM->Storage.

Considering that you have a preset that is giving you issues, you have more than likely exceeded the capabilities of your current system.

some pressets go up to 1K, 2K MB and are fine, but once pressets start to go up to 6K 7K then it all starts to crackle and fail etc. so yeah, I guess it’s that

 

A 16 or 18 RAM would fine then I guess?

Yes that should be ok. I use 32gig to be on the safe side. I don’t do it for a living but you still need to know the basics. The td50x has an app in the control panel where you can set buffers as long as you have set it to vender mode. Another audio interface won’t fix the crackles though.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Hey Freddy,

Other than upgrading your computer, you could unload some of the instruments in your SD3 project and/or disable some of the bleed in the mixer to lower the RAM usage a bit, if that is indeed the reason for the performance issues.

Removing an instrument:

You can disable all bleed from a channel, which dramatically lowers the RAM usage:

Or disable bleed from select instruments (to the right in the mixer when an instrument channel in the mixer is selected).

There are also two toggleable options in the performance menu that opens when you click the RAM usage box in the top right. Both of these options will save some RAM.

Of course, doing this (especially disabling bleed) will change the sound of the preset.

finally I decided to fix the whole thing by doing something I should have done a long time ago, buying a new computer for my hobby’s and leave my work computer alone with all this nonsense. Now it works like a charm and I can focus on all the other 9028226263 questions I have about all this.
