TD50 as SD3 Stand Alone vs SD3 VST in Ableton

Hi All,

I have been able to setup my Roland TD50 for triggering SD3 in the stand alone version. In this set up the the choking of the cymbals & the touching of ride all mutes the sound. Works pretty well. Now when I start using SD3 in Ableton Live as a VST I noticed that choking no longer works and the aftertouch on the ride cymbal is doing nothing at all.

Has anyone experienced (& hopefully solved) this issue?

My TD50 is connected with a USB cable straight into my MacBook Pro (16GB/756GB).

Hi,

it was ages ago I spent time with Ableton, so I can only guess.
Some hosts have a Preference setting on by Default to filter out Aftertouch messages, please check this first.
Then, if Im’m not mistaken, you have a MIDI tab for each instrument you load in Live, right?
Check this as well for any Aftertouch on/off or routing settings.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply. I checked a bit more and after a little while I discovered a forum thread on Ableton where people were ranting about the fact that Ableton is not supporting polyphonic aftertouch in Live 10. So to me it seems like I have hit a dead end street.

I’d better check out a different DAW and probably will try reaper as my next stop.

Btw, are you aware of any DAW that supports the polyphonic aftertouch so that my cymbal chokes are captured?

I just wanted to let you know I will be going along with Reaper instead of Ableton as the cymbal choking works perfectly in Reaper.

Seems very odd that it isn’t supported in your DAW. I can verify Cubase supports it.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Thanks for the enlightenment. On Ableton’s forum however there is info about this & it’s not supported. Switched to Reaper and it works just fine.
