I am very new to SD3 and have the Roland TD-50K2 (which includes the TD-50X module as well as the digital snare, ride, and hats). I attempted to get it set up some today and found that the ride only maps the bell and the edge. Additionally, the rim of the floor tom seems to have been mapped automatically to the crash bow. Am I missing part of the setup, or is there a different preset I should be using? I believe the MIDI data from the TD-50X is correct (and working with my computer more generally) as I’ve used it successfully and without issue in different software.
Hi,
I do not have a unit to test myself but I must ask if you are certain that your module is @ Factory settings when it comes to MIDI note assignments?
Are you using the SD3 Core Library? This Ride is using CC positioning, right? What does the Ride CC Map tell you in the MIDI Preset on the MIDI In/E-drum Settings page? Are you using SD3 standalone or in another host?

Hi John,
another general question concerning the MIDI mapping:
Example: I have a default instrument like let’s say racktom 2 with notes mapped 1,2,3,4,5 and 4 and 5 are alias notes.
Now I do a mapping on an added instrument. I map the note “4” to it. Will these double mapped note an the racktom 2 be deleted?
Do I have to take care of double mapped notes and delete those alias note from each instrument?
Greetings
Manuel
Yes it will be removed from the old instrument.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
Core library, factory settings, etc. For some reason the ride was mapping to multiple zones and I had to program them to ride notes manually. Was able to get it figured out, though. Appreciate the response.
Hi John, do you know if SD3 now supports the TD-50X module to leverage the features of the digital HH, Snare and Ride? for example, using the rimshot that now the TD-50X detects when I do the same than on an analog one. That is a great step closer to a decent emulation of the analogue world. If you put SD3 on top of that you have a really high-end combination.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Rimshots on the snare and postitonal sensing on the ride have been supported for quite a while. Positional sensing using the VH-14D is now supported with the Roland TD-50X preset.

Thanks! I wasn’t able to find that confirmation on other posts or product documentation. Can’t wait to receive my TD-50X and try it with SD3!
Hi,

Rimshots are triggered no matter how hard you hit the rim so if you’re asking if SD3 supports hitting the head and rim at the same time to get a rimshot the answer is no, it always trigger note 40(rimshot) by hitting the rim only…
What happens then with the “new note” that the TD-50X sends when I hit both the rim and the snare at the same time? the module and the pad have that capability. In other words, there are 3 notes now to play from the TD-50X (rim, snare and rimshot).

there is no new note, roland always has sent 37 for x-stick, 38 for head and 40 for rimshot. 3 notes, 3 sounds recognized by SD3. Now I think you’re confusing how roland triggers different sound out of this 3 notes, yes with the TD-50x you get a different sound if you hit the rim only and the head-rim at the same time, but if you check the midi, it’s the same note 40, which is what SD3 will recognize.
