Hi All – this is the weirdest – I recorded 3 instrument tracks in Pro Tools – kick, snare, hihats. All good until I save and playback. The kick sound happens a second before the note on the timeline. It’s not delay compensation, sample rate, etc. The snare and hit are perfectly synced, but the kick is a second early (even though the visual notes are perfectly aligned). Any thoughts? Thanks!
Mac Mini M4 Pro (2024: 64 GB), OSX 15 (Sequoia), Pro Tools 2025, UAD Apollo 8, UAD-2 Quad Satellite DSP Accelerator, 2 x Lacie Thunderbolt SSD (250GB), Seagate Backup Plus Drive (4TB), Samsung T7 (4TB).

I’m already doing this, following your earlier posts. Just seems more complicated than having separate instances. However, the MIDI overdubbing discussed on the Avid DUC seems like a much better method, I’ll try that.
The way you started out doing your work may seem simple to you but it’s part of what’s causing your problems. Why not do things the way every other person would do it? Once you get the hang of it you should be sailing along just fine. Learn good habits from the beginning and that way you won’t have to unlearn what got you into trouble to begin with. None of us was born knowing this stuff in the womb and learning new stuff can lead you onto the path of success. Trust those of us who have been there/done that.

Thanked by: Bear-Faced CowIf the OP insists upon using 3 instances of SD3,
perhaps they should ‘unload’ the kit pieces not used in that particular instance
so as to free up system resources.
The extra load may be what is causing the ‘time-slippage’.
??
What we don’t know in all this is what are the OP’s system specs and is he using the core library or an SDX?

Despite the fact that the system has plenty of horsepower, I still agree with Jack as far as setting up SD with ProTools. But I will say outside of this is that if the OP is finding it inconvenient to do things the way we prescribed, then perhaps it is a DAW workflow issue in that the workflow is incompatible with what the OP wants to do. In that case, OP should be using a DAW that matches their workflow aspect.

How many different adapters are you running those UAD boxes through? Not all Thunderbolt series adapters are compatible with each other as are not all Thunderbolt versions are compatible with each other. And don’t even get me started if any of those are Firewire connections.

Satellite to Apollo: one thunderbolt cable; Apollo to Mac: one thunderbolt cable with adapter. Works just fine.

The Apollo and Satellite are fine. Unless they are TB2, all you need is a TB cable. We don’t need to worry about FireWire connections because the no Apple Silicon unit has any.

UAD Apollo 8 is Thunderbolt 2.

Apollo 8 also came with TB3 cards as well. It’s moot anyways because you can get a Thunderbolt 2 adapter. My Apollo Silverface and satellites run this way without any issue. Even as such, there is plenty of horsepower. The only time bandwidth becomes an issue is if you are hooking up a monitor onto the same Daisy chain.

What happens if you “Save Copy In…” (without copying audio or choosing a new location, simply saving a fresh session file in the same folder)?
