I need a simple, driving surf beat at 160 bpm, like “Point Panic”, “Hawaii 5-0”, or “The Wedge”. It’s got to be authentic. I’m using “The Classic” kit so far, and “Pop/Rock” works well too.
Grooves -Pop/rock -funk/rock -pattern 20 -rock open HH 8s. Re-prog the kick 4 to the bar on the beat. Try shifting the HH pattern to the floor tom for a classic variation . Fills want to be simple 16s. Surf’s up!!
PS For a classic early 60s surf drum sound the Jazz kit is the best. They weren’t playing loud or hard. It’s a pre-rock style. The drums are fairly dry & forward in the mix. The 90’s surf revival sound can be anything you like of course.
