SD3 was just given to me as a gift, so I am just starting my VST journey with my new vdrums. After getting the Roland V71 driver loaded and my computer successfully connected to the module, I fired up SD3. Things were working but I quickly noticed the instrument mappings had some errors. For example, the rim of the tom was mapped to an SD3 cymbal. So I went looking for presets and found them, but unfortunately the latest Roland module listed is the TD50X.
As a day 1 user still trying to learn the terminology used throughout the program, I’m hoping to use a preset rather than have to learn enough about the program to be able to manually do all the configurations required for SD3 to work correctly with the V71. When can I expect to get an update for SD3 that includes the V71? If it is not imminent (the module has been out for 3 months) can you provide me with a checklist of all of the settings that need to be made manually in order to accomplish the same as the missing preset?
I will do that. Is that what everybody else is doing? I’m assuming there is a reason they delineate the modules individually, what might I expect NOT to work quite right by selecting the 50X for the 71? Aside from getting things working, I’m also trying to understand the scope of the presets.
I’m just curious. In your experience how quickly should I expect the company to add the newest flagship module from the largest player in the market given that it seems the 50X is real close already? It’s been about three months since availability.
Hi,
I can’t give you any insight on if/when a new preset would be added. I guess it partly would depend on how much such a preset would differ from the 50X preset. I would suggest you try it first, it might just work great; things usually don’t differ much between Roland modules when it comes to what matters for a preset. In some iterations, there has been differences between CC output resolution and stuff like that but the MIDI mapping is generally the same.
As I understand it, it’s mostly the internal sounds that differ between TD-50X and V71, right?
Anyways, you can’t break anything by loading the TD-50X preset. The MIDI In/E-Drum presets are just a “transformation filter” handling the incoming MIDI from the module to match what is set up in the SD3 plug-in.

John
