Hello, I just purchased Superior Drummer 3 and installed the full package. I can use the stand alone program, but when I try to use it as a VST3 plug-in in Acid Pro 11 I get no sound and this error:
Audio engine inactive. Check your audio device.
I have set the Acid VST path to match the stand alone’s.
Thoughts?
Windows 11 Pro, Presonus Studio192 ASIO drivers, everything 64Bit
So have you actually loaded sd3 from within acid? SD3 loaded into a DAW then the DAW takes care of midi and audio. Do other vst instruments work in acid? I haven’t actually heard of Acid and use Cubase myself (also know sd3 loads in reaper as well without problems)
Download reaper and check it loads in that DAW. Remember you don’t open as standalone. You need to load from within the DAW
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
I looked at the Acid page and don’t see that it supports 3rd party plugins. I see that yes it does have 3rd party plugins but seems like those are purpose-built for Acid. Also it talks about using Rewire for shuttling data (MIDI and audio) between programs. You may have to run SD3 in a host and then Rewire to Acid. Actually even Propellerhead Reason (the developers of Rewire) don’t even use that protocol anymore. For that matter is SD3 even compatible with Acid? I did some checking via DuckDuckGo on Acid and most consider it a ‘buggy mess’ in their words.
I used Acid back in the day when it was still owned by Sony and never considered it good for anything other than looping. Yes some used it as a daw but I had better choices at the time like Cakewalk Sonar.

Acid Pro does indeed support VSTs. However, by their developers admittance, it doesn’t support it very well at the moment and are working on revamping their engine. All they recommend is that you do not mix your VST‘s.
Frankly, in this day and age, you’re better off with the DAW that will properly support plugins.

The proof that it fixed the problem is in the fact that he’s up and running. Even on a Mac, a reinstall is sometimes necessary to get things going.
Glad you are up and running
