OK, I’m a new user…..but I have just mapped my 2Box drum-It 3 over and a few problems.
I am used to playing my kit via the brilliant Focusrite 18i20 but now want more choice so opted for SD3
I have problems with sounds being so quiet, even though the equaliser sliders are well up.
So here’s my set-up…..see if this is where I am going wrong…..
2Box drum-It 3 MIDI Out to Focusrite 18i20.
2Box Drum-It 3 USB out to Laptop
Focusrite 18i20 USB Out to Laptop
The MIDI within SD3 is mapped from my Drum-It 3
The output from SD3 is routed to my Focusrite 18i20
Focusrite 18i20 output to monitors
When I play from my electronic drums WITHOUT using SD3, the sound system is amazing and zero latency.
But when I put it through SD3, it’s like a ‘re-trigger’ split-second delay – and so annoying.
Is there something I am doing wrong – either in my connections or configuration – or both?
I have SD3 on my main C drive on my laptop and all the big sound packs are on the D drive (1TB in size).

your audio interface has its own settings window, open it and change the buffer there, it´s confusing but 33ms is a lot of latency. Change the buffer to the minimum amount 32 or 64 samples and go from there until you dont hear pops and clicks.
Hi,
I think you should have a ‘Settings’ button in your Scarlett MixControl panel software. This opens a separate ASIO Buffer size menu. Try setting this as low as you can without getting crackles and pops in the audio.
As others have stated here, ASIO should be selected in the SD3 Audio Device settings as well with low buffer size.
8GB of RAM should work in Standalone but 8 more wouldn’t hurt.

OK,
so now you have everything connected properly, the ASIO driver selected and set to low buffers, LOCAL set to OFF in your module?
Are you still experiencing a delay?
The HH settings I posted about earlier helped you flip the CC and improve the response, right?

John

Thanked by: MarcoRothAgh yes…..the Hi-Hat is good now. One wonders why 2Box send this out the opposite as it receives it. Each to their own, I suppose!
The ‘Local’ setting in MIDI I can check. As I have already physically removed/disconnected the harwire outputs (all 4 of them), is this still necessary?
I am now considering getting a new MSI Laptop and giving this present one to my son. Will I still be able to download SD3 on a new laptop, with my license?

The LOCAL OFF setting in the 2Box module bypasses the internal sound circuits so the trigger signal is routed directly to the MIDI output instead of first triggering the internal sound then going MIDI Out (or something similar).
Yes, you will have no problem downloading, installing and authorising SD3 on your new laptop. Just use the Product Manager and please remember to deactivate the Authorisation on the old one.

Unfortunately I still have a slight delay. Its as if the snare drum strike sounds after I hit the drum. I know its less than before but annoyingly still there.
I think my RAM is handling OK. In SD3, the Memory usage at the top right corner is 1.6 to 1.7 GB. One would assume my 8GB is suffice, then?

OK, so you set the Buffer to 1ms in the MixControl panel and what is it set to in the SD3 Audio Device settings?
Yes, it should be enough w 8GB if your kits are around that size in standalone. If you use bigger kits inside another host like e.g. Pro Tools or Cubase, it might be inadequate.

Hi John!
Attached images I have just taken from SD3 this morning.
I cannot adjust settings of latency once I have selected ASIO(?).
Also confirmed atted picture that I have now selected Local to ‘OFF’ in 2Box Drum-It 3.
Thanks!
Mark

So there should be a control panel for the audio interface. Is it in the control panel? Mine is for the two usb interfaces I have for my TD30 and Zoom desk. I change the settings in that control panel. I never change them in SD3. Whatever you change in the audio interface panel will reflect in SD3
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
What happens if you click asio control:asio? The control window of your audio interface should appear…
Yes, what happens if you click ‘ASIO’ in SD3 when your ASIO driver is selected?

Problem sorted!
Focusrite support sent me the new BETA driver used on the 2nd generation of the Focusrite 18i20. See here:
<<Regarding the latency issue, the best driver type to have it on is ASIO. Next to where it says “ASIO Control”, there is a box saying ASIO – if you click on this box it should open a control panel of some sort where you can adjust the buffer size. If you change the settings to be best for Recording, you should find you get lower latency. However, if you find you are still getting latency, we do have a beta version of Mix Control which installs the same driver used for the 2nd generation interfaces and this driver is lower latency in general than the one you’re using. If you want to download this, you can do from the following link: http://beta.focusrite.com/file.php?id=1334. Please be aware that the device will show up differently in your applications as Focusrite USB ASIO or similar.>>
So if anyone has the same or similar set-up from me, you can use the driver above!
Needless to say, but the sound is absolutely awesome playing SD3 through Focusrite 18i20 audio interface!
