Please add to the list if you notice anything new in 1.1. Fantastic update Toontrack!
1. Use browser MIDI. What we’ve all been waiting for.
2. Move chord inversion up and down in chord chooser. More granular transposition than the octave up and down. Again, highly anticipated.
3. Humanize function when importing MIDI from browser. Sounds good and not overly-done on a fully-quantized loop I imported. No adjustable parameters on this one though.
4. Differentiation between add-on packs and user MIDI in the browser area. Helps visually. Well done again.
5. Add chord to song track. Not sure how I would use this meaningfully. Suggestions?
6. Record. I don’t play piano. That’s why I own EZKeys. Hope someone uses it! I could conceivably use it to get MIDI into EZKeys from my host, where drag and drop from host to EZKeys is not supported by the host. (e.g. Cubase)
Anyone notice anything else? I still notice some weird choices when transposing chords in some cases, could use some refinement there, though I realize asking an algorithm to have an “ear” is a tall order. Also could provide a mechanism for dealing with differences between the chord clip length in the timeline and the MIDI file being auditioned in the browser when using the “Use Browser MIDI” function.
Overall, I’m extremely pleased.
Thanks!

5. Add chord to song track. Not sure how I would use this meaningfully. Suggestions?
Yes, if I already know I want the chords for my verse to be e.g. | C | Am | F | G |, I just add 4 chords to the Song Track and change them accordingly.
Next, I use the new ‘Use Browser MIDI’ function to find the playing style for my chords.

John, that’s a very cool feature. BTW, whenever/if ever you guys release EZ ORGAN (I know there is a joke here somewhere), I plan to buy it. So, I’ll keep my eyes peeled and my fingers crossed. Good job on EZ KEYS!

I’d like organ, upright, wurly, rhodes, and clavinet. However, I’m guessing they will first put out add-ons that work best with existing MIDI…electric pianos and other piano variations like upright.

I don’t follow this.
The ‘Use Browser MIDI’ will audition Browser MIDI using the length of the MIDI clip(s) selected in the Song Track.

You’re right. When the MIDI in the timeline is too long it will loop back. Not sure why I thought I was seeing that.
The problem does exist though when the timeline MIDI is too short. Maybe there should be a way to offset where the MIDI in the browser starts.

I just tried the demo and i think its the old version. I was unable to maintain my chords while trying a new pattern. are you saying that this is now possible?
if not it was a deal breaker for me.
did a new version just get released? is there a new demo?
Thanks
In your demo, was there a button just above the timeline called “Use browser MIDI”?
It will appear only if you already have some chords in the timeline.
That would be the new feature. A little difficult to figure the entire procedure out without reading the manual, but took me about 15 minutes of flailing. That’s how I roll.
Your deal is not broken. The demo might be old.
Strange that EZKeys 1.1 was not mentioned in the forum announcements section.

i dont see that button. the demo says version 1.0.1
So are you saying that theres a new version that can allow you to audition/replace the midi patterns and retain the chords established?
i downloaded the demo today. i wonder why its old? like i said that was a deal breaker. so if thats fixed then i will buy it.
Whilst the inversion shifter is great i wish we could have a simple octave shift as a choice.
The same exact notes just up or down an octave.I keep looking for it like its hidden away as it would give great scope to change.
i did find an octave shifter in the demo.
in 2 places actually.
one was in the tuning panel on the piano, which i take it is global, and the other is if you right click on a midi file once its in your timeline, you’ll see a octave control for that file
just speaking from memory so dont mark my words…
Yeah, in the latest version there is both an octave shifter and an inversion shifter. The octave shifter is a little bit further down on the chord wheel than the inversion shifter.
Inversion shift will shift just the right hand part. The octave shifter will shift both right and left hand parts, so they are both useful. The inversion shifter can’t completely replace the octave shifter because it does not move bass notes.
Octave shift has always been there.

They must not have an updated demo. There is a way to keep your chords and audition MIDI now.

The official release announcement of the 1.1 update will be next week. The update was posted on the server and made known on a few threads here but will be ‘official’ next week. A new demo will also be forthcoming.

Check the current manual (3.4 Song Track) about the ‘Properties’ section. It’s brief, I know (I wrote it), but it mentions the ability to adjust the octave of any/each song block.
With the new inversions function, I find I’m using the octave function a lot. As mentioned, the inversion button doesn’t change the bass note in a chord. If I want to change the bass note octave of a chord, I use the Octave button in Properties and then mess with the inversion button to get the voicing I want.
