Eventually, I plan to do the make your own bundle of 3 SDX packs. I already know I’m picking Reel to Reel and the Drum Factory. I’m looking for suggestions for the 3rd pack. Something more recent perhaps that is somewhat up to par with the above two or at least that have great non-processed kit sounds. So far, this is what I already have:
Death and Darkness
Legacy of Rock
Fields of Rock
Progressive Foundary
Modern Metal EZX
Gothic EXZ
I have a large kit so anything with extra percussion etc. is welcome, but nothing overly gimmicky. I’m more interested in good quality clean presets or kits in the rock and fusion vicinity, as well as good articulation mapping for snares.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, but given your fondness for many toms, why not the Hitmaker SDX? I think it may be what Tom Conner meant to recommend regarding Phil Collins’ sound. It seems to suit your want for fusion kind of stuff. While I’m not a fan of many of the snares, and I find the 2 concert tom kits as well as 3 Yamaha kits a bit redundant. The Tour and Recording Custom kits are a bit similar to me, but the “Storyteller kit” (probably what Tom was thinking of) is quite different at least.
But I love the cymbals in this pack. Particularly the Sabian HH’s. The are so bright and defined, I’m sure they’d “cut through any mix” ™. And the drums are all well recorded of course. And yeah, I forget about the old drum machine samples. There has to be some great uses for all those.
I did check those demos out but not really looking to replicate Phil Collins as I don’t generally play along to his music. (don’t get me wrong, I respect him as a musician and drummer but not really what I’m after.) besides, I have at least 2 presets with that infamous gated sound. Also not really after the synsonics drum-like sound so much either. LOL
It’s tough to judge from samples. Sometimes they sound good but then you get them on your kit and it just does not quite measure up as you thought. It’s a shot in the dark sometimes. I am curious though if anyone has Stockholm and thoughts on that one.
What are your personal thoughts on drum factory and reel to reel? They both seem really good.
Indeed they are good… and once again different in the energy they bring. I have yet to use Reel to Real in a song, only because of finding how and where it will fit. I am picky that way. Again for a recent song, Drum Factory was an instant fit, and to be honest, I wasn’t really surprised given the song I was working on.
Again, this is more of a YMMV situation.

There is far more to Hitmaker than Phil Collins. Even with that particular kit, you can do a lot with it. If anything, that particular preset shows more of Superior Drummer’s capabilities beyond the kit itself.

Yeah, I certainly wasn’t thinking of it for the presets but rather the sound of the clean kits.
For Stockholm, I’m not a fan. Similarly I find having so many 10, 12, 14, 16 kits a bit redundant. Unless your ears are good enough to pick out and prefer the different materials/construction (mine aren’t), they are all a bit too samey to me. I also find the softest snare hits a bit to hard/loud and the velocity curve and soft hits controls didn’t really help. Plus a rather small selection of cymbals and no extra percussion seems like it’s missing out. Great drums and recorded well, but like Jazz and Hansa, just not for me. I have been overly ambitious on learning mixing and hoping to be able to make anything work so I have bought too many inappropriate SDX’s, and like you I’m mainly just drumming to drummless/stemmed tracks atm.
SD3 with Real to Reel, Fields of Rock, Drum Factory, Death and Darkness, Legacy of Rock, Hitmaker, Stories, State of the Art, Decades, Stockholm, Jazz Sessions, Hansa, Rock Foundry, Area 33 (in order of preference). Plus a few older SDX's and EZX's.
Into: Reaper with Ryzen 5700x, 32GB RAM and assorted SSD's.
Through: Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 Gen2 USB Audio Interface
From: eDRUMin 10 + eDRUMin 8 with assorted Roland and Yamaha pads.
Thanks all for the suggestions. I’m a bit a ways a way from having the funds to spring for another 3 pack but I appreciate all the feedback. Very helpful.

Actually, I just really listened to all demos including each kit closely for hitmaker and I gotta say, it sounds friggin awesome! I think I will end up going w/ that one to supplement drum factor and reel to reel.
