I know you folks don’t support Cubase SL but I’m, really, REALLY hoping you can give me some ideas to try. Obviously I don’t expect you to simulate my work environment but I thought maybe you could suggest some things to try. EZDrummer worked just fine yesterday but today it’s unusable 🙁 And I didn’t make any changes to my computer. (I’m running XP.)
I used to be able to drag an EZDrummer groove to my Cubase SL project window by pressing and holding the left mouse button while dragging it. Cubase would create a new midi track with that groove on it alone. Each time I did this, Cubase would create a new midi track. But now when I attempt that (pressing the left mouse button and dragging) all I get is the circle with the diagonal line on it. If I press the right mouse button the groove starts playing. And pressing the right button again makes the groove stop. (My mouse buttons use the default set-up.)
I tried turning off my anti-virus software and re-starting my computer to no avail. But I’m at a loss as to what else to try.
Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Tom
You can try to launch Cubase as an administrator, instead of double clicking the application icon from the desktop or start menu. Right click it and choose “Run as administrator”.
Note that you will be required to launch your host application in this manner on every session.

Scott –
Run as administrator? The attached doc shows what my Run As choices are. I don’t see an Administrator choice. And if I click off me as the Current User, I believe I get a Syncrosoft POS Error Message.

I can’t be much help with XP since I haven’t used it in years and I don’t remember what right-clicking on an .exe looks like in XP.
This is what right-clicking on the cubase.exe should look like.

So I’m guessing that I can’t run my old version of Cubase as an Administrator since I don’t get that option when I right click on my Cubase icon. (See my attached word doc.) Any other ideas what might suddenly cause me not to be able to drag and drop a groove?
Thanks,
Tom
No I can’t. It’s usually a UAC or administrator issue. I don’t think XP has a UAC (maybe some early version, IDK). Can you drag from the EZD plugin to the desktop?

Scott – You have my undying devotion! When you said – can you drop to the desktop – a lightbulb went on in my my otherwise darkened brain! That’s been my workflow all along – but you reminded me of it! Once a groove is dragged to desktop I can do a Midi File Import from Cubase without opening up a new project and the EZDrummer groove shows us on a separate midi track in my project. It adds a step or two to the way EZ was designed to work but the end result is the same. Great drum sounds! All I can say in my defense is that EZDrummer is such a critical, go-to app for my music making that I panicked when I couldn’t use it! There’s no other iOs app like it – that has the feel and realism of the sounds! Making a version of it for iOs would be really cool!
And ever since I turned off Realplayer as my default player, EZDrummer sounds load up promptly.
Thanks again, Scott! The tech support that you guys provide is excellent!
