Hi,
I opened up an existing project through Cubase AI8 today and both EZDrummer2 and EZKeys were asking me to authorise (I’m a long time user and everything is up to date). I conducted a PC restart but issue was not resolved so I went through the ‘authorise’ process via the DAW. It stated all up to date and authorised. Now I have a message via both EZDrummer2 and EZKeys asking me to browse to locate the sound files. I’ve looked but can’t see any obvious files.
I’ve tested both EZDrummer2 and EZKeys as standalone via the desktop and both produce sounds when played with the mouse. My midi controller is not triggering sounds any however but I’m not sure if this is an issue as I never use them this way, only ever through the DAW.
I have not reconfigured my PC in anyway so not sure what has caused this issue. Should I try a re-install of both products?
Thanks
Hi,
if both plugin load in Standalone with no prompting of locating sound files, the only logical explanation would be that Cubase is loading other versions of the .dll files.
Both Standalone apps offer a ‘Show Plug-In path’ Help menu item, to help you locate the correct .dll path.
If you perform a Search on your system for ‘ezdrummer.dll’ and ‘ezkeys.dll’, I am pretty sure you will have more than one result for each.
Do you and where are they located?
The thing to keep in mind though, is whether or not you have both 32-bit and 64-bit versions installed on your system and which ones you are using in Standalone and Cubase.
If you e.g. only are using the 32-bit version, there should only be one Search result and it should be in the path shown by the Standalone. Any other should be deleted and Cubase should be pointed to the correct one.
If you haven’t selected and checked the box right next to your MIDI interface in the Audio/MIDI setup of the Standalone apps, sounds will not trigger, so that’s most likely the explanation for that part.

Thanks John,
Second reply from me, the previous got lost in the ether.
I did find additional EZdrummer .dll files and I have deleted all those not in the path provided by the 32 bit standalone. I have also uninstalled the 64 bit version. I hasn’t made any difference in Cubase and I have conducted a rescan from there to see what gets picked up. Still have the issue. EZdrummer via Cubase is greyed out except for the error message but I am able to select ‘about’ which tells me it is version 0.1.4.0. Product Manager and standalone version says 2.1.4. EZkeys via Cubase says 1.0.0.0 and via standalone/Product Manager is says 1.2.4.
Do you have any other suggestions? If I try a re-install do I need to uninstall first or will the process happen automatically?
Many thanks
Sean
Can you post a screen shot of the entire plugin interface in Cubase with error message displayed?
Re-running the 2.1.4 update without uninstalling is quite OK.

Well,
I couldn’t see what version number was displayed in the lower right corner of the plugin interface, since it was too dark.
The Cubase versioning reporting does not show the correct plugin version number.
The fact that you can open the standalone without problems does still indicate several versions of the .dll file present on your system.
It should be the very same .dll that is opened in both EZdrummer 2 standalone and Cubase.
If you can’t find any other .dll file on your system, what happens if you Browse for the sounds?
They should be in ‘C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesToontrackEZDrummer’
If you have upgraded from EZdrummer 1 they will be in ‘C:Program Files (x86)ToontrackEZDrummer’.

Thanks John,
Ok, first things first – everything seems to be sorted. I searched again for both EZdrummer and EZkeys .dll files and only found one for each, both 32 bit, as I expected. I browsed for the sounds (I had tried before) and headed for ‘C:Program Files (x86)ToontrackEZDrummer’ as I’m an EZD1 upgrader – nothing there. So I then tried the ‘Common files’ route. As if by magic all sorted. So, both drums and piano are now back working, although all projects seem to have reverted to the default kit. I’ll live with that.
Thank you for your assistance – now off to write that classic,
Cheers
Sean
