I’m using Luna. When I create multi-outs, the default is to create a stereo track in Luna (panned hard left and right).
In the EZDrummer3 mixer window, the snare and kick are centered. I’m assuming the snare and kick remain centered in the stereo image when they are routed to the multi out stereo track in Luna.
I think my confusion is that if I take the stereo channels in Luna and adjust the panning to the center on the snare or kick channels, the snare or kick will sound significantly more centered in the mix than they did previously (when the panning was hard left and right). I’m also using a send for parallel compression and routing all the drums to a bus (I’ve kept both of these channels in stereo, panned hard left and right as well).
I’m inexperienced in these issues, so I’m just confirming that I can just leave everything in stereo (panned hard left and right) on all the channels and the snare and kick will remain centered in the mix, preserving the stereo image. It’s just weird that the snare and kick sound different when I move the panning on their channels to the center. It seems like they should already be in the center? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Hi,
I think what you are experiencing is the effects of panning law, which in most cases/DAWs today is +/-3dB, i.e. a mono sound source panned hard center in a stereo image will be 3dB louder than panned hard to L or R.
