After fooling around with this I realize that Logic won’t load those L and R mono files and defaults to the stereo file. However if you rename the mono files then they will load.

This is a standard naming convention for split stereo files. By renaming them away from the convention, Logic (or any DAW) will simply assume that you are loading mono files. These days, exporting to split stereo doesn’t really carry a lot of benefit, unless you specifically require two mono files of the stereo image.

Pro Tools gives you the option of bouncing files (as WAVs) in split stereo (two files .L &.R) or interleaved (L/R embedded into one file). SD should incorporate that into their program. (Especially now that we can have surround mixes) WAVs can be multi-track files (more than just L/R embedded in one file, 5.1, 7.1 etc…)

mickg, that is how it works now. Default is interleaved stereo and the option to ‘Split Stereo Microphones’ is on the Advanced Bounce (Export Song as Audio File) page.

As I mentioned, split stereo is pretty much an old standard. Most modern DAWs are able to do multichannel processing from an interleaved audio file.
