ummm….Just came across this possible hack that could open up extended chords and notes for EZbass and thought I’d share it. I haven’t tried it yet (haven’t had the time) but I thought I’d put it out there to see if it inspires others to experiment.

Shawn from Shottie School (love his work and I’m not even a metaller) (https://www.youtube.com/@ShootieSchool) came up with this hack of slaving EZbass to EZKeys2, using EZkeys2 functionality to get over the limits of EZbass chord construction/selection. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4N6jY0KlfM&t=744s (around 9.35 mins in)

I’m yet to try it but what do you guys think?

if i drag my EZK MIDI into EZB, then all the melodies and chords are there and played (not always a great sound but it works that way). so if i do a careful EZK track with more melody and fewer chord (plus higher register mostly) then is can sound more like a pastorius or lagrene performance 🙂

I absolutely agree, it’s time consuming to write it the right way. For now, I just use the key and bass key to get the right scale. E.g. Em7b9 becomes Gmaj7/E

I just bought EZbass and was suprised when all chords are not available. not even 7th chords. makes it unusable for me, should have saved my money.

Totally agree with the need for far more chord flavours but I think we’ll be waiting a long time for any help from the developers

Hello, friends. EZ Bass really leaves something to be desired in this regard. And the folks at Toontrack don’t seem to resolve issues in the short term, if they ever do. Here in Brazilian music, we often use tonic and fifth variations in bass accompaniment. One tip that might help is to use a minor chord with a major sixth in the bass: Cm/A can sound like Am7(b5). Got it.

I must say I assumed (wrongly) that EZB would allow any chord, similar to EZK. From the videos I watched I didn’t notice this limitation at all and realized it the hard way, when I was creating a bass line. I hope Toontrack add more complex forms of chords in a new version, as this would help a lot for speeding the creation of lines.
