Does anyone know if Superior Drummer 3 recognizes the SPD SX PRO?
I set up a RT30 HHR and a RT30 H and configured them both in the PAD/TRIG settings on the SPD SX PRO and they are registering fine on the SPD SX PRO.
The SPD SX PRO is active under midi devices in pro tools and is checked.
I have set the Midi in channel on SD3 to 10 which is the Global Midi channel in the SPD SX PRO.
I have also set the preset in SD3 as SPD SX, however I noticed there is no PRO, just the SPD SX.
I cannot get SD3 to read any midi signal from the spd sx pro.
Do I need to drop a few hundred more dollars on SD4 or swap the PRO back for a regular SPD? Does anyone use the SPD SX PRO with SD3 and protools? Any help would be appreciated 🙂 thanks
SD3 will work with anything that sends midi. The sx pro should work. Have you tried any DAW software to record midi and see if you are actually receiving any from the pad? I can’t comment on pro tools as I don’t use it. The preset should be the same unless Roland have done a total remap of the note numbers on the pro. I doubt that very much though.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

In addition to this get the free MIDI-OX utility and run it in standalone mode. It’s a utility that will show you what the SPD (or any MIDI device) is sending to your computer. This is the first thing I recommend to people with MIDI issues – see what the sender is actually sending and is it getting to the computer? The comparable utility for Mac users is snoize.
If the SPD is connected via USB make sure any power savings measures in Windows are turned off. By default the USB ports on a Winmachine are set to turn off after a certain amount of time. This will happen even on a desktop computer.
Actually the first thing I would try, if it hasn’t been done, is to try SD3 in standalone first.
